The suretor for the marriages was Isaac WALTERS, and the minister was Nathan Young.  In 1850 and 1860 Joseph was farming in Berkeley Co., VA. WHITSON, b. 21 Jan 1825, VA, d. 24 May 1878, age 53y 10m 3d, Berkeley Co., d/o Benjamin T. WHITSON. Benjamin WHITSON was the suretor for the marriage. The census records indicate James was b. more closely to 1820, and was alive in 1860, probably dying in 1865. In 1850, he was farming in Berkeley Co. In 1860 James was blacksmith living in Scrabble, Berkeley Co.. Mary A. Gillgore 30, was boarding in the home. In 1870, Sarah and children, Mary A., Susan, and Rebecca are living in Martinsburg, Berkeley Co.. Wilson Birt (or Burt) age 77, b. MD, was living with them. In 1880, Sarah and Susan are in Martinsburg, where Sarah is a dressmaker. Daughter, Rosa COLBERT, her husband, Francis, and son Charles are in the household. Francis works on the railroad. Jennie BYERS 6, a granddaughter is also in the home, and Elizabeth Gardner 67, a boarder is living there also. James, Sarah, Sarah Catherine, John William, and Eliza V. are all buried in the Scrabble United Methodist Church Cem., Scrabble, Berkeley Co. (WVBE1,11-14) Children:
