230 Peter LIGHT, b. 3 sep 1733, d. 10 Dec 1810, Berkeley Co., VA, m. his first wife, (231) name unknown, b. bet. 1755 and 1769; m 2nd. wife probably in Lancaster Co., PA, Ann _____, d. 1839, Berkeley Co., VA. After obtaining his father's land in 1763, he remained on the property farming and running the mills. He had 250 acres in Caernarvon Twp., and 44 acres in Earl Twp., both in Lancaster Co., PA. He and wife Ann sold parts of the land in 1771 and the remainder in 1773. Peter and brother, John, bought 734 acres in Berkeley Co., VA, and and additional 16 acres in 1774. In 1778 and 1779, he bought out brother John making his "Lick Plantation", a total of about 1500 acres. The house built in 1780 is now on the National Register of Historic Places and Sites. He was a blacksmith, farmer and dealer of real estate. Peter is listed as a land owner in the rent rolls of Berkeley Co., VA, 1774-1781, for 890 acres.He was non combatant in the Revolution, due to his selling of beef and wheat to the army. He shod shoes for soldiers of the Revolution at Bedington. He m. 20 May 1767 , Berkeley Co., VA, Nancy Ann STRODE, b. 20 May 1767 (5 Jun 1768 in Hamilton J. LIGHT'S Bio), d/o Jeremiah and Margaret (FORMAN) STRODE. John is listed as a land owner in the rent rolls of Berkeley Co., VA, 1774-1781, for 154 acres. Hamilton farmed at Bedington, Berkeley Co., and served as superintendent of roads in Opequon District. In 1870, he was farming in Opequon District; In 1880, living in Opequon District, with his son-in-law, Henry Riner SPEROW, daughter, Rachel A., and their son George living in the household. In 1880, George was farming in Opequon District, Berkeley Co. In 1900 through 1910, they were living in the 5th. Ward, Martinsburg, Berkeley Co. George was a farm laborer in 1900, and an odd job laborer in 1910. This may be the Peter LIGHT listed as a land owner in the rent rolls of Berkeley Co., VA, 1774-1781, for 400 acres.They had 12 children, but only 5 lived to adulthood.
