Boonsboro, Washington Co., living in 1900, s/o John and Margaret EAVEY. There is a John  EAVEY b. 14 Jan 1796, d. 30 Sep 1879, age 83y 8m 16d, buried in Woodlawn Cem., Greene Co., whose age does not fit Margaret C. KNODE EAVEY'S husband. Either there was mistake in the collection of data, or this is John S. EAVEY'S father. He worked in his father's marble quarry in MD until his marriage, at which time he became engaged in the milling business. They migrated to Xenia, Greene Co., OH in 1841, with their two oldest children, traveling in a Conestoga wagon. He erected a brick house on Wilmington Pike where he died in 1879. Here John secured 240 acres of land for $12 per acre, now owed by his son John E. In 1845,he purchased and moved to the Bonner place, where he lived until 1875.For a time he was also engaged in the mercantile business in Xenia. They were members of the Reformed Church in Xenia. Margaret, after the death of her husband, moved to West Church St., in Xenia. In the 1860 census, Edna Knode EAVY 24, b. OH, was in the household. This person is not identified in any of the census records, or the family biographies. In 1900 Margaret lived in the 1st. Ward, in Xenia. She has in her home, Edna A. EAVEY, b. 1848, OH, identified as a granddaughter, and Maggie Thompson, b. Aug 1858 in OH. They are buried in Woodlawn Cem., Greene Co., OH. (MDWAB1, 3, OHGRB2, 3, 5, OHGR6, 7, 9) Children:

110.4e1 Arthur W. EAVEY, b. 1838, Washington Co., MD, d. 1924, Greene Co., OH, according to the bio of Joseph E. EAVEY, was a farmer in MS. No census listing for Arthur can be found in MS. He appears with his parents in the 1860 census. No Arthur EAVEY can be found in the MS census records. However, an Arthur W. EAVEY, who fits the age of this Authur, b. in MD, whose parents were b. MD, is listed in four census records (1880 through 1920) as being an immate at the Dayton State Hospital for the Insane, in Van Buren Twp., Montgomery Co., OH. . If this is the same Arthur it would not be unheard of for the time to hide a family member with mental illness. Arthur is buried in Woodlawn Cem., Greene Co. (OHGRB5, OHGR6, OHMT8-11)

Dec 1891, Greene Co., OH, d/o Rev. Thomas H. WINTERS; m. 2nd. Feb 1896, Rebecca Alice GALLOWAY, b. 28 Dec 1851, d/o James C. and Mary Ann (KENDALL) GALLOWAY b. 1851, d. 1944, Greene Co., OH.  At 16, he took employment in a retail grocery store of David Hinton at Xenia, leaving this job for the farm, but in 1859, entered the grocery store of D. A. Dean. He enlisted in Jul 1862, serving in Co. H, 94th. Reg., OH Vol. Inf., and Co. B, 1854th OH. during the Civil War. He was captured, and was released from prison in Lexington, KY, due to ill health. He established a wholesale grocery business on 1 Jul 1869 with Allison and Carson. Buying out his partners, he established EAVEY and Co., with J. D. Steele and W. B. Harrison, erecting a building on W. Main St., which was destroyed by fire in 1908. In 1870, they were living in the 3rd. Ward, Xenia, with a domestic servant, Mariah Carr. Afterwards the partners dissolved their share, and he took his 2 sons, William E. and H. Earl into the business. He also established grocery businesses in Springfield, Findlay, and Dayton, and in Ft. Wayne and Huntington, IN. He was elected president of Citizens Bank in Xenia on 15 Jan 1897, which he held until his death. In 1900 W. GALLOWAY, his mother-in-law is living with them. He was a member of the Woodland Cem. Board, an elder in the Reformed Church, a member of Lewis Post Not 357, GAR, and local lodge of Free and Accepted Masons. His home was on the corner of West Market and King Streets, Xenia. Alice graduated from Xenia College and  Anticoh College, and was a teacher in Greene Co. In 1920, she is living with her daughter, Nellie E. SCHUSTER who is now a widow. Henry and both of his wives are buried in Woodlawn Cem., Greene Co. (OHGRB2, 3 p692, 5, OHGR6, 78, 9, 10, 11) Children:

110.4e5 Joseph E. EAVEY, b. 20  Sep 1848, 1 mile SE of Xenia, on Wilmington Pike, Greene Co., OH, d. 1920, Green Co., OH, m. 1st. 8 Oct 1877 (or 18th), Etta S. WRIGHT, b. 1855 OH, d. 1944, Greene Co., d/o John F. and Rebecca (VANETON or VAN EATON) WRIGHT. . Her father lived in Xenia, and mother was deceased at the time the bio was written. Joseph attended Smith's Seminary on East Church St. He went into the grocery business with hiis brother Henry for 9 months. In 1872, he began farming on the home farm. He operated a dairy and creamery outside the city limits of Xenia on a 500 acre farm. In 1880, Maggie Bowser 16, b. OH, was a servant in the home. He established the creamery in 1888, and was a stockholder in the Citizen's Bank. In 1897, he moved to Xenia, erecting a house at 234 E. 2nd. St. He continued to manage the farm, raising stock and making a specialty of Red Polled and Holstein cattle, and Duroc Jersey hogs. In 1897, he also bought half interest in Maddox and Eavey Coal business. In 1900, Mary WRIGHT, his sister-in-law was living in the household. After her death, he m. 15 Jun 1819, Washington Co., Susan BELL, sister of William D. BELL. There were 6 daughters, but the records are unclear of which children belonged to which wife. Daughters a, b, and f, are unidentified. The names of the other daughters were identified through the names of their husbands. *Some census work could clear up the confusion. Amelia was buried in Old St. John's Lutheran Churchyard, later moved to Rose Hill Cem., in Hagerstown, Washington Co.
