From deeds in Berkeley Co., VA, it would appear that Martin HELM lived in Martinsburg, where he bought a lot on the corner of Spring Alley and Burke St., on 27 Jan 1778 from Adam Stephens, and where he sold a 1/4 lot to John Frank for 166 lbs. in Martinsburg. He was listed as a taxpayer in the Virginia Taxpayers in 1782-1787, with. 1 pole, 0 slaves, Berkeley Co. In the 1774-1810 tax list, he is listed as a taxpayer, in 1783 with 1 white, no slaves, 1 horse 3 cows, with a tax of 0.12.0; and on the tax list of 1792, he is listed with no acreage. In 1792, also listed on the tax list, are a John and William HELM, but no relationship to Martin HELM has been proven. Barbara HELM settled her husband's estate in Berkeley.
