The Family of Christopher MCALLISTER
and Barbara HELM

58-Christopher MCALLISTER, b. c1780, s/o Christopher? and Margaret (____?) MCALLISTER, d. bef. 9 Apr 1840, Berkeley Co., VA, buried with Masonic Honors by Equity Lodge, m. (licenses 13 Aug) 13 Dec 1810, Berkeley Co., VA, (59) Barbara HELM, b. 30 Nov 1789, d/o Martin and Barbara (____?) HELM, d. 8 Sep 1853, age 53y 11m 8dBerkeley Co., at Little Georgetown, of cholera. She is buried in Little Georgetown Cemetery, Berkeley Co., and the location of a grave for Christopher has not been determined. There are a lot of people living with Christopher MCALLISTER in the 1820 Census, probably some of these were clerks or workers.. The occupation of 5 members of the household is listed as commerce. In the appraisal of his estate, 15 Mar 1841, there was a house and lot in Martinsburg at $1000; 60 hides at $80; 36 calf hides at $49; 3 sheep skins at $3.75; chestnut oak bark $2.50; and various household goods. The inventory indicates taht he must have been a tanner or producer of leather goods. George DECK was the administrator of his estate. Barbara MCALLISTER'S estate was settled by James M. Newkirk in 1853. To date we only know for sure the following children, but they must have had at least 2 or 3 children born in the years from their marriage in 1810 to 1818, when Mary MCALLISTER was born. George W., a son, states in the 1880 census, that his father was born in Delaware, which needs to be researched. There is a Christopher MCALLISTER, shoemaker, in Martinsburg in 1813. This could be this Christopher or his father. WILL (O2, VAB12, WVBE3, 15 p124, 16 p204, WVBE1, 7-10,) Children:
