26 John CRIDER, b. 25 Jul 1808, Lebanon Co., PA, s/o Christian and Catherine (WITMER) CRIDER, d. 2 Feb 1870, on Wednesday at his home in Scrabble, Jefferson Co., WV, m. 15 Oct 1833, Funkstown, Washington Co., MD,  (27) Eliza SEIBERT, b. 15 May 1815, Washington Co., MD, d/o Peter and Margaret (KNODE) SEIBERT, d. 3 Nov 1865, Scrabble, Jefferson Co., WV. Both are buried in Scrabble U. Methodist Church Cemetery, at Scrabble. By 1833, John CRIDER had migrated down the Hagerstown Valley (Cumberland Valley in PA, Shenandoah in VA), to the vicinity of Washington Co., MD, where he married Eliza SEIBERT in the town of Funkstown. All of their children except James A. and Emma Virginia, the youngest, were born in Washington County, probably in Keedysville. Before 1850, they moved across the Potomac River to Berkeley County, VA. They appear in the 1850 census in Berkeley County, but by the 1860 census they had moved across the creek to Jefferson County. Actually, they were right on the county line, where John operated a mill on Rocky Marsh Run, the boundary line between Berkeley and Jefferson counties. The house and mill were on the south side of the run, in Jefferson County, a few hundred yards upstream from Dam No. 4. As late as 1980, there was still a house and part of the mill still standing on the site. John and Eliza are both buried a few miles west in the Scrabble Methodist churchyard.  (ILSA1, MDWAB1, 4, 9, O2, PI32, WVBE11, 13, 17 p78) Children:

26.2 Barbara Ann CRIDER, b. 20 Apr 1836, Washington Co., MD, d. 18 Apr 1887, m. 9 Feb 1856, Jefferson Co., John Wesley TAYLOR, b. 6 Jun 1833, s/o Samuel and Lydia TAYLOR, d. 9 Aug 1908. The information on Barbara Ann's family, was given to me by Francis Taylor ASHERMAN, age 87, 1 Jan 1975, and a d/o of one of the below children. She was living with her son 1/2 mile south of Fayettesville, PA, in the village of Duffield in 1975. Barbara and husband, John TAYLOR are buried in Ceder Grove Cem., Chambersburg, PA, along with two of their children, George W., and Mary Eleanor. May Eleanor is listed at Mary B. in the Franklin Co., Cemetery Records. (PAFRB2, PI46, WVBE1, 11,WVJE13) Children:

26.2a Fannie Greenwood TAYLOR, b. 18 Nov 1856, d. 19 Dec 1917, m. Cassius Washington DUFFIELD, d. 20 Apr 1929. In 1900, Cassius and Fannie were liviing in Guilford Twp., Franklin Co., PA. They were living with 6 children, and Mary E. TAYLOR, age 27, listed as a border, who was born in Jul 1872, and William Saum, age 32, a servant. This Mary E. TAYLOR must have been one of the neices of Fannie Greenwood TAYLOR, although she is listed as a border. (PAFR1, PI46) Children:

26.2a3 Frances E. DUFFIELD, b. 24 Nov 1887, Duffields, Franklin Co., PA, d.1974/75, Chambersburg Hospital, d/o Cassius W. and Frances Taylor DUFFIELD, m. Harry A. AUSHERMAN, b. ___, d. bet. 1976 and 2004. She was a life long member and vice president of United Methodist Women, of Fayette, and served on the parsonage committee for several years. She is buried in New Guilford Brethren in Christ Church Cemetery, very close to where they lived. (PANP1, O22 ,PI46) Children:

26.3 Eliza Jane CRIDER, b. 16 Apr 1838, Washington Co., MD, d. _____, probably Sangamon Co., IL, m. 22 Feb 1861,  Jefferson Co., WV, Robert Cadden BYERS, b. 19 Dec 1835, Jefferson Co., VA, s/o Jacob and Catherine (ERNST) BYERS, d. 1901, probably Sangamon Co., IL. Eliza CRIDER, age 28, in the 1870 census of Jefferson Co., was enumerated with the Robert BYERS family, along with her brother, James A. CRIDER. James A. was listed as a farm laborer. They lived in Jefferson Co., from the time of their marriage until 1876, when they migrated to Sangamon Co., IL. They had no children, but may have raised the children of Robert's brother, Issac Newton and Annie Marie Walgomot BYERS, after their death. 26.9 James Asbury CRIDER, b. 9 Nov 1854, (descendant says b. 19 Jan) Jefferson Co., VA, d. 1944, in or near Arlington, Carlisle Co., KY, m. Florence GORRELL, b. 9 Jan 1855, d/o Joseph G. and Mary Mollie (TURNER) GORRELL, d. 10 Nov 1826, Carlisle Co., KY. In the 1870 Jefferson Co. census, James CRIDER, age 15, was enumerated with the Robert BYERS family, as a farm hand. He migrated first to Ball Twp., Sangamon Co., IL, where he was farm laborer in 1880. His sister, Eliza Jane BYERS and husband were also in Sangamon Co. He must have left there after 1890 when the last child was b. in IL, and migrated to Carlisle Co., KY. In 1900 through 1920 he was farming in Milburn,  Carlisle Co., where in 1920, B__win Hill b. Dec 1963, Carlisle, KY. In 1910 Caddie was farming in Milburn, Carlisle Co. In 1920 he was a mail carrier living in Bardwell 1-District, Carlisle Co., with Mary Thomas 17, b. Surviving are her husband Harry  A. AUSHERMAN, two Sons, George Quentin AUSHERMAN, and Jay A. AUSHERMAN, both of RR1, and 4 grandchildren. Services will be held at Calvary United Meth.
