Lundy Lake in the Fall
You either love this place or you hate it, sometimes both. There is a lot of fish in this water and with patience they are catchable. When the wind blows through this valley it really blows and at some point just about everyday it does. The bottom is very rocky so when the wind blows your line, it regularly gets caught. The good news is that if you don't get caught you will catch fish.

Tip 1: Bring lots of tackle and patience.
You probably are going to lose some stuff here so be prepared to tie a lot of knots. You will learn by trial and error where to cast and where not to to avoide getting caught up. Having multiple rigs set up is a good idea so while you fix one you can have a line in the water with the other setup.

Tip 2: Use light tackle.
If you put too much wait on your line you'll have no chance of avoiding the rocks and broken lines of others that over loaded and lost their set ups. Also smaller sinkers have less mass to get caught. Power bait and worms work here, but I have had my best luck with eggs.

Tip 3: Bounce your bait.
It has been my experience here that these fish won't eat off the bottom. They see the bait on the drop then hit it. This is were it gets interesting. Every couple of minutes lift your pole carefully but quickly, reel in the slack, and let it sit. You might be suprised how often you get hit right after moving your bait ( if you don't get hung up). For this technique I use a #10 bait hook with an egg sinker 1/8th, a split shot to hold the sinker 12"-18" from the hook, on 4lb test.Sounds crazy I know, but it has worked for me on many trips to Lundy.
Tip 4: Be quick to set the hook.
Because these fish often dart back to the cover of the rocks after taking the bait you need to re-act quickly. They can entangle you with the rocks faster than the wind. I hold my pole when the bite is on and try not to give them the chance to take it into cover. Try not to over react though. You don't need to set the hook hard, just quick.

Trouser Trout?
I don't encourage such behavior, but after a long day fishing in the sun and wind, and the pressures put on a man in such difficult circumstances, well........
" Boys will be Boys"
Yes it is worth it.
