A4 vs Guardrail
Home Up Rear-Ender A4 vs Guardrail

Yet again my poor Audi has been violated, I’m so sad, actually it happened about a month ago now (Dec. 28th 2000). This guy in a Buick something or another merging onto the freeway in front of me lost control of his car, and he shot across my lane. When I swerved to avoid contact with him (I would have T-Boned him right at the drivers side door) I too hit some ice or slush and ended up going into the guardrail. My poor Audi hit head first then kind of swung around and dented the left rear and then it was over!!! I was physically okay, again, but my poor car?!?!?!!?

At the moment I’m dealing with my insurance company to try and figure out what we’re going to do, fix it or total it (I’d rather fix it, I love my car). The big problem is with the previous repair; apparently the last shop I took my car to did a “hack job” on the rear, so when my car swung around and hit the rear more damage occurred than should have. The shop I choose this time is awesome, AutoMetric’s, they come very highly recommended and only work on European autos (when I dropped off my car there were Porches old/new, Ferrari’s, and other very expensive cars…heck mine was the “Yugo” of the bunch). Anyway they know what they’re doing and will do it right!!!! So now it’s time for some pictures.

A little warning, the full size pictures are 1024x768 so they may load slowly =)

    Update: 01/30/2001

Yes the car is going to be fixed...although it took the lousy insurance company forever to make up their minds. Hell the cars been at the shop torn apart for 33 days and the adjuster is just now giving the ok to start fixing her up...I'm really not a happy camper right now!!!! I'm stopping by the shop today to pickup my garage door opener (yes I left in in the car, really smart) and I'll take some more pictures of the car all torn apart.

Now for the pictures, again they are large so watch out...

Rear after brkdwn showing bondo.jpg (189096 bytes)

In this picture you can see the crappy bondo job the previous shop did, this contributed to greater rear end damage

    Update: 06/10/2001

Well after about a million phone calls and waiting for what seams like forever I finally got my car back!!! It looks awesome I had the body shop install some S4 parts rather then using the standard A4 parts. Basically the whole front end is S4, the bumper, the grills, the fog lights , and headlights too (xenon). So as far as the repair is concerned I love it, they even managed to fix the rear the correct way thankfully the other body shop was nice enough to pay for that portion. Given they were threatened by the insurance company with a lawsuit if they didn't hehee =). That's what happens when you say you fixed something one way when you really didn't, come to find out they charged the insurance for things they never did (like replacing the rear deck lid). I don't want to dwell too much here but the car looks great...I'll put one picture here you can see more in the Mods section.
