Covers on Jainism

This is a special cover by the Mangalore Philatelic Club. The picture is "Samavasarana" an oil painting by Manjayya Heggade.

This special cover was issued to mark the 2600th birth anniversary of Bhagavan Mahavir (Kalyanak Mahotsav). Jainism has been prevalent in Karnataka from the very beginning. Karnataka has produced eminent preceptors of Jainism like Kunda Kunda, Pujyapada, Kaviparmeshti, Chariekshi to name a few. The occasion April 6, 2001 marks the beginning of a year long celebration.
