Expansion Pool

   '02 Rule Changes

We currently have 7 spots for expansion for the 2005-06 SOMIBA season. We have a unique system of retaining players into an expansion pool each year where players are drafted by the computer GM during each expansion and rookie drafts stocking teams where the players are placed in this pool. The stock teams do not participate in the regular season but hold as a pool of players for the next year's expansion draft. Plus, if a coach decides not to rejoin the league, the players on the team are added to the pool of expansion players. This year we have several players worth building a team around

(Kobe Bryant, Carmelo Anthony, Ray Allen, Rip Hamilton, Allen Iverson, and Tracy McGrady to name a few) and we'd be excited to have you on board if you're interested in building your own team through our expansion draft instead of taking over someone else's team, shaping your team through each year's rookie/free-agent draft, playing games against competitive coaches, and getting know to know some pretty interesting guys that know a lot about the NBA and Strat-O-Matic basketball. We are looking for guys that are looking to join a league for the long term if possible and developing relationships with the other members over the years while playing games either through email or even Netplay once it's released.

If you are interested in joining SOMIBA or have any questions after reading through the constitution, please send me (Jason) [email protected] or the commissioner (Ed) [email protected] an email.

League summary:
 1. Established in '96, SOMIBA is free Strat-O-Matic computer basketball based league.
 2. We are a 24 team league with some of those teams existing as un-owned stock teams if the number of
league members does not equal 24.
 3. We have a unique expansion pool that was established in '96. Players are drafted onto stock teams by the
computer GM's during each expansion draft and rookie-free agent draft if there are less human GM's from
the total expansion spots. These players don't participate in the regular season but are placed in an expansion
pool for the following expansion draft. If a team leaves the league then after the season the players from that
team are placed in the expansion pool.
 4. We have 16 player rosters where you are able to protect 10 players each year with the remaining 6 players
are placed in the rookie/free agent pool.
 5. There is a rookie-free agent draft after each expansion draft before the start of the season consisting of 6
rounds. The rookie-free agent pool consists of NBA rookies computerized by S.O.M., players that are not
drafted during the expansion draft, and the 6 players that are not protected by the returning teams.
 6. We play an 82 season schedule with up to half of the teams eligible for the playoffs. Each team will play an
equal number of games against all teams and if this is not possible more or less games against certain teams
     will be determined randomly.
 7. The regular season will be broken into 4 quarters where coaches will be be responsible for creating game-
plans for away games and playing their home games. Each quarter will consist of 5-6 weeks.
 8. During the regular season players are eligible to player 105% of their actual NBA minutes and are restricted
to the number of NBA games in which they played. There are no minutes restrictions during the playoffs
except for fatigue and players that play 41 games or more are not restricted in terms of games.
 9. Before the schedule is created, coaches create a list of games (1-82) in which they want each player to miss
     for the season.
10. Players must be rated at least one minute at a position to be eligible to play a position. Each team is required
to have 2 players eligible for each player during each game.
11. All trades will be reviewed by the Executive Committee (EC) and unethical or clearly one-sided trades as
voted on by the EC will not be allowed; trades by new league members especially will be carefully reviewed
and approved; and draft picks of the next year's rookie/free-agent draft are allowed.
12. Each year we will have an All-Star game and season awards.
13. The commissioner will keep full stats and update the league web page at least every couple of days.
