DaggsLand Essay Excerpts
BOOK -TRANSPORTATION (excerpt from first chapter)

All I ever wanted, or so I thought, was a nice office job with some potential, a decent salary, and air conditioning.  I had worked for maybe 20 different employers already and was tiring of the same dance. Busting my hump to get ahead to get to a more intellectual position, something that challenged my creativity and me. I wanted to work for someone that treated me also like a human being instead of a computer or as cattle. I wanted to feel good about what I did every day, making a difference in the world or peoples lives, somewhere my integrity counted, some where I had a voice. Is it any wonder I went thorough 20 jobs?  And I was only 22.

I know your thinking such young nave ideology, a dreamer, a hippie, and a tree hugger! Wake up and smell the coffee from yesterday! It, much like the world is a little too caramelized, a little too stale, and probably will give you the runs before you are finished with it. I only wish some one told me any of that.

If I had a crystal ball I would of kept on with my dance of job jumping, or maybe even finishing school, or better still, following my true love & beliefs. But I didnt have a crystal ball; I didnt know what was in store for me over the next 5 years. But at least, I have my story.

The Symbolism of Moby Dick, a whale of a book.(excerpt from pg1 scored 100 out of 100 for ENG280)

Herman Melvilles life was an intriguing one, with many interesting aspects. Melville ventured into the ocean making several voyages with various whaling ships in the islands of the Marqueses in Tahiti eventually ending up in Hawaii, where he joined the U.S. Navy and would work aboard the frigate United States for 1 year. Melville would continue to draw from these experiences most notably in Moby-Dick. His religious upbringing in his family was probably confusing to him; his mother was a very faithful woman and would raise all her children to be the same. However, his father was more of a Unitarian. This led many to believe that the book Moby-Dick represents not only Melvilles love for the sea, but also reflects his search for religious faith (in one opinion where Ahab represents Herman Melville and Moby Dick represents faith). These influences, together with the changing times of America seem to have a deep effect in his works. Moby-Dick on many levels does appear to be an allegorical representation of god. Though I feel it may show more of Melvilles personal philosophys on religion than that of traditional Christianity.

In the opening pages of Moby-Dick, Ishmael offers a history of whales and a multiplicity of their meanings. Over the course of the novel, he makes use of nearly every discipline known to man in his attempts to understand the essential nature of the whale. Such a portentous and mysterious monster roused all my curiosity
Ishmael asserts his authority as a narrator and frequently references to the limits of observation men have in regards to the sea. (can not see the depths of the ocean, for example), Which is much like most human knowledge of undiscovered things, limited and sometimes insufficient. The ways of Moby Dick, are a lot like those of God, and our inner self or soul, both are not completely known to us
