"Some come to work, while others to play.
Some come in evenings to pass time away.
Some come to laugh, their voices do ring,
But as for me, I come for to sing"
Often enough, when visiting Renaissance Faires, you may find that the music you're hearing is somewhat familiar to the ear. This is because many of the ballads sung at faires are traditional, meaning that they are so old that more often than not, no one knows who the original author is! Over time, minstrels have rewritten and altered the music and lyrics so often that it is quite commonplace to hear a traditional song performed in many different ways by different artists.
The Ladies of the Dagger and Rose perform using both traditional, contemporary and original material, and sometimes we use a mixture of the three! There are several instances in which we have taken well-known tunes and added our own unique twist. In our archive, you can find lyrics to a few of the songs that we use most often at the Faire. We've also included some favorite pub songs as well as some of the more popular songs that are common at any Renaissance Festival. If you learn the lyrics before you head off to the faire, you're sure to have twice as much fun when you find that YOU can join in at the Pub Sing!
