Flipping Heck! Holy Smokes, Weezer returns with a kick ass album. Even if it is a bit short the good news is that they're already recording new demos for another! Here is Da Faulkiners own review of the masterpiece: "Yes I like it a lot. The first tune is okay but I generally skip past it. Photograph is superb, a real sing along tune, reminds me a bit of Buddy Holy. Could be a future single. Hash Pipe is great, and a step out of the similar sound maintained throughout. The lyrics are about whores and drugs, great to sing along to. Its got a bit of a heavier riff which is cool especially when it leads into Island. This is flipping amazing and will be most peoples favourite on early listens. I especially love the start, drums and hip hip. Cool. It keeps going great guns with the next two tracks. Crab is cool, don't even want to know what its about or where he got em. My join current favourite is KDDO, the chorus is so cool it drives me a bit mental. I fucking love it and can't wait to see Weez play it live. Smile is a bit shit in terms of the rest, but still quite nice. Simple pages took a while to grow on me, but I like it now. The beginning bit is really smart, and I think it should have stuck with original title Gimme some love. Glorious Day is my other favourite, dead nice for a summer anthem to rock your tits off to. Woo Hoo. Shame about O Girlfriend, I think its pretty crap, but you can't win em all. I DO is lovely, Weezer always do an amazing final track thats a bit different, and this is almost equal to Only in dreams and Butterfly. So overall, Bloody Brilliant!"

"Opening dity is My name is Jonus, about a bloke called Jonus trying to catch a train to get to a building site. Or something like that. There is probebly a deep meaning, but all I want to know is will the work ever get done? Top opening tune which is followed by the heavish No One Else. He wants his bitch to stay in doors, and damb right he is too! You can never tell what them women get upto once they've slapped some lippy on! The world has....has a long title and is good. But not brilliant, a song that either grows on you or doesn't. This review is going nowhere! Next up is the little belter Buddy Holly. Known to most as 'That Happy Days song' the beast stand for more than a wicked Spike Jonze promo. This will be everyones favourite at some point, and just keeps on giving. The quality keeps unbelievebly high with Undone-the sweater Song. Another methaphorical lyric here, someone has snagged his jumper and some little swine is pulling it. Don't know what it means but I like it so much I once ran naked around Wakefield listening to it. Surfwax is one of my favourite weezer songs, and I understand the lyrics. He's going surfing! Will cheer you up on those dullest of days, gaurented DaFaulkiner pleaser. I know I'm beginning to sound gushing but Say it ain't so is fucking amazing. I got the single in 1995 and couldn't believe the quality. THE high point of an outstanding album, Weezer's most poinent, emotional and rocking song, what more could you want. The next 2 songs are both brilliant, but in comparison to some of the others lesser so. But I still love both, kick ass Garage and singalong Holiday. How do you finish such a Rocking album? Weezer pulled out one hell of a beauty with Only in Dreams. Take the tempo down, listen to that bass line, then all hell breaks loose and goes into a long solo. Amazing. All I can say is if you haven't got it yet...get it. If you have, it will be with you forever. Long Rock Weezer." |
Weezer - The Blue Album
This is a classic album in the same way Peppers is or Tommy. No, not a concept album just a great one. EVERY music fan should own it and here is why....
Totally under-rated, totally under-hyped and totally mind blowing. Da Faulkiners totally brilliant review tells it like it is.....
"A lot has been written about Pinkerton, good and bad. Most of the bad press stems from the fact that it sounds different to Blue, and a lot comes from Rivers himself, most probebly because the songs lay down his bare emotions and it then proved a commericial dud. But check out any Weezer fan board and its another story, Everyone loves it. Here is the inside track...Tired of sex opens, and shows immediatley the progression from Blue. Raw and loud, kinda desperate sound which carries throughout. He's got girls coming out of his ears, not literally, that would be disgusting! And probebly quite tireing. Not my favourite song overall, but with my favourite EVER weezer solo. Getchoo ups the pace, sing along words and a kicking beat makes this one hell of a tune. No other one is a slower balad type song, ultimately boring. Similar name to No one else. A bit. Doesn't sound like it much. Why bother is a stand out song, infectious chorus and rock n roll type feel. Hmmm, yes! Words to live by, if you can't be arsed at all. Across The Sea is brilliant. Instant favourite, this sounds like one of those classic songs that are played forever. Personal lyrics, apparently Rivers wants to shag a Japanese girl but she's across the sea. He sings, "I wonder how you touch yourself", we think "Dirty Bugger". Fantastic song though. The Good Life is another brilliant song, building up each verse into a real rocker. Words suggest Mr. Cuomo isn't too happy, but when he's this good, what the problem? First Single and album stand out is El Scortho. On first listen is sounds mental, secong listen it sounds weird, third listen it sounds, and then remains, sheer genius. It won't leave your brain for a month, and the words are crazy shit. Sheer class. Pink Triangle is about finding a lovely lass and finding that she bats for the other side, she a quik-fit fitter, left luggage. She's a lesbos. Tough to hear, and I've never been too mad about the song neither. Falling for you is smart, and rounds off the rock songs. Last is Butterfly. This is one song that gets a little lump in the throght. Its really sad but beautiful, and takes the emotional singing up to 11. Not many bands can kick your ass so well and then produce such a tender song. Weezer Rock, and for anyone who passed it over, Pinkerton is just as essential as blue. It twists a different way but will have you hooked just the same."
