February 2007

I moved down to Sydney earlier this month and have been unpacking and settling in.  I lived in the area I've moved to for about 2 years almost twenty years ago.  So, it's made it easier to settle in.

12 February - I commenced the Acting to Camera course at NIDA.  It runs for 3 hours on Monday nights until 18 June.

19 & 20 February - The extra work I did on Home and Away in November was aired on Channel 7.  I was visible in some shots.

24 February - Auditioned for Random House TV pilot in Newcastle.

December 2006

I auditioned for the 1 year part time Screen Actor course at NIDA on 24 November.  There were over 150 people auditioning and only up to 30 places in the course.  I was unsuccessful but was offered a place in their 6 month part time Acting to Camera course.   So, I will start that just after I move down to Sydney at the end of January.

My final results for Certificate III in Screen consisted of 7 Distinctions and 3 Credits.

8-9 November 2006

I did two days work as an extra at Maitland Gaol for the TV Soap Home and Away.  I was one of the prisoners in the gaol.  It will probably screen early in 2007.  I don't normally do extra work (last time was August 2005) but as it was local and I hadn't done anything for Home and Away before I thought I'd give it a go.

The short film I entered in the Newcastle Film Festival was screened as one of the top 10 and won the Encouragement Award (A free entry for a team of 4 in next year's Newcastle Shootout Film Festival).  I basically did everything but act.  It was a real ego boost to have drinks with the judges (Yahoo Serious, Amy Edwards, Garth Russell and Kerry Herman) afterwards and have them tell me how much they enjoyed my film.  The short film was an extended version (1 minute 49 seconds) of a recent TAFE assignment to make a TV commercial.  It is called Rob Ridgeway Mobile Massage Therapy and is based on a friend's real business.  You can view it below.

Today on page 12 of 'The Herald' (Newcastle) there is an article (SEE COPY BELOW) about my pursuit of acting with my previous voice problem of the last 3 or 4 years.
