Course Objectives The emphasis of this course is threefold: (1) understanding the importance using information technology to the success of organizations; (2) the use of information technology to achieve competitive advantage; and (3) the use of personal computers and how they are used as tools to improve problem-solving and productivity. This is not a programming course; it is an information technology management course.

Course is structured to enhance interactive learning, therefore class involvement is essential. In addition to delivering IT management related knowledge to students, this course is also beneficial for seniors in enabling them to conduct business oriented research, and present effectively and efficiently business oriented knowledge. Course is nourished with numerous short case studies that will give business students the opportunities of handling real life operations.
Course Requirements Class projects:
This course is designed especially for seniors who are deeply interested in the IT sector. Therefore, contemporary issues on IT management will be the main project topics of the course, and these are included on the next pages. However, upon deep interest arising from students, course structure is ready to include new project topics. This is thought to be important especially for those with enterpreneurial sprit that are willing to start their own in the years ahead.

Every student must complete a final project. You will work in groups of two, and use all of the tools you have to learned and bring them together in one final project. During the first 2 weeks of the semester, students are required to inform the instructor of the composition of their team together with the topic that the team will focus on. Topics will be assigned in the first-come first-served principle, and dates for presentations are going to be set accordingly. For those teams who want to introduce their own ideas to the class, instructor's approval of the content is required.

The project should focus on giving brief explanation of the chosen topics that is followed by an analysis of one organization that has used information technology to compete more effectively. Teams are expected to turn in written projects (see syllabus for due dates) as well as presenting their work in the class during the semester.

Each team is also responsible of distributing a one page summary of their work to their collagues during their presentations. Be sure to include 3 major questions you came across and have answered during your presentation at the end of your one-page summary.Social loafing is not promoted in this class, and tardiness will never be approved. Every team member is expected to contribure to presentations, collague evaluations, and written work.

Short Cases:
The purpose of each major case analysis is to provide you with an opportunity to apply the course reading material to a real world situation. Make every effort to tie the reading material into your answers.

All assignment that are referred as Business Briefs (BB), Music Industry (MI), and end of chapter Case Assignments (CA) compose the short case assignments of this course. Each submitted answer for BBs and MIs accounts for 1 point towards your final grade directly, while each submitted answer for CAs accounts for 2 points towards your final grade. Total of 25 BBs and MIs answers, and 12 CAs will be considered towards your final grade, while your lowest grades will be omitted. In total, 50% of your course grade will be composed of these short cases.

Examinations:
There will be a final exam. Exam will be primarily case-based and open books and notes if not take-home. Experience suggests that a thorough understanding of the assigned reading material and in-class discussions are needed for successful examination results. Final exam will also include a section from one-page summaries of projects, too.

This course is only open to seniors of the Department of Business Administration, all other are required to get special permission from the instructor.
