| 5. Negative Media Publicity: Unfavorable response to the image given the deliverance ministry by some involved in deliverance due to: a. Excesses in extra gospel practices/doctrines b. Deliverance techniques c. Talking to demons for information d. Exorcism fantasies and extremes e. Top heaviness in deliverance (to the exclusion of the rest of the Gospel). f. Exclusiveness and elitism attitude (which fosters judgmentalism and division). g. Food fetishes with things such as vegetarianism, etc. h. Study of witchcraft and occult literature (to get the drop on the devil). i. Tax resistance (Jesus paid taxes to Rome). Deliverance workers who don't pay their taxes bring reproach upon the deliverance ministry. j. Prosperity doctrine, the Manifest sons of God, and any other new revelation, etc. k. Military spirits and survivalist involvement. l. Extremes (of those heavily into deliverance) that can include: 1) Belief that deliverance is everything. Salvation is sidestepped and every other element of Christianity is soft peddled or ignored. 2) Belief that all problems are caused by demons or the devil. 3) Ignoring the basic A,B,C's of Christianity (which are also needed) including: Sanctification Holiness Purity Accountability Reading the Word Submission Serving Giving Prayer Praise Christian fellowship Crucifying the flesh 4) Isolation from the Mainstream of Christianity with beliefs such as: Nobody except deliverance people knows what is happening or have anything to offer. One can't trust anyone who doesn't do deliverance (rather than trusting those who are under the restraint of the Holy Spirit). 5) Legalistic adherence to techniques and patterns formed by others fostering an attitude such as: "I don't need God anymore" "I know it all now, I've read all the books" 6) Loss of the ability to feed upon the word 7) Pride and arrogance because of being able to cast out demons: Dangerous over confidence could result in destruction (Proverbs 16:18, Pride goes before a fall). Taking lightly the miracles. Not giving honor to God's chosen vessels (e.g. pastors) that are not into deliverance.
