2/7/04 I guess an update is in order after more than a year, (and due to the fact that one can only play solitaire---the card game Arlen and Lesley....really......--- as a means of putting off reading for so long). Still at UBC, still living in Tweedsmuir House....President of Tweedsmuir House actually. It's been an...interesting...year. I spent last summer at my sister's place in Port Hardy trying to get work. I ended up working for the district but then got a better job at Quatse River Hatchery. I still mainly worked with the weedeaters and stuff but I did get to spend some time with the fish, (I learned how evil Coho really are-it's nature, not nurture!), and 'the office' couldn't have been more scenic. I was really glad to get back to UBC though. When I leave this bubble I just seem to fall right off the planet. This summer I'll be staying here trying to find some work and taking some courses. I remember there once being a first year student intent on getting a degree in History. My, how times have changed....although I'm starting to worry that my search for a major will be circular and I'll end up staying here longer than need be filling up pre-reqs. Right now I'm thinking of geting a BSc in Global Resource Systems. Yup, the riches are aside right now...This degree will allow me to work in South America aiding the people there in issues of international trade and development. We'll see though, I also have my sights on a poli major/econ minor. later, DJ
1/20/03 It's been awhile since any work at all has been done to this page. I'm living at UBC now and it's a blast. It's all about the CHEESE parties, PUB crawls, and, as everyone says I'll soon find out, the TOGA parties. Of course the city drives me crazy some times: I've ran into Greenpeacers on the Grouse Grind and work ethic around here is non-exsistant. I've designated myself the house redneck. I can't stand 'the man' (ie housing) but the entire experience is amazing-the time to live life to the fullest I guess, 'Tuum Est.' Besides school, (well, in order to afford school), I'm in the process of joining the militia, as a Seaforth. I just recently switched majors so now I'm going to try a combined Poli Sci and Econ, (we'll see though-they're trying to make me do math! DJ

23/AUG/04 Summer's pretty much over. Kinda exciting but also depressing, especially since my only vacation consisted of but four hours in which I was able to see my (very pregnant) sister on the island. I've spent the not-so-lazy months here at UBC. I took a couple of Econ classes and worked at Hell's Kitchen...when I say work I mean work!...usually 50-60 hours a week. It was a learning experience. The people I worked with were cool and the perks were good but it really did reinforce the popular idea that people are stupid. I can not handle stupid people...it'll all be over soon, my resignation goes out tomorrow. I would keep working there but this summer I was finally enrolled into the reserves. I'm a Medic in 12 (Van) Field Ambulance based out of Jericho Garrison. It's an excellent opportunity I figure that will provide the perfect school and summer jobs, train me well, and that can be an immediate draw once school's over that I can use to get a development career started. I can't believe that I just used the word 'career'! I move in a couple of days out of the summer residence of Fairview into Gage. I'm in some kind of weird arrangement that's slightly larger than usual but co-ed! My flatmates and I are hoping that the girls will be laid back.... Even though I didn't fall off the face of the Earth this summer I was still pretty solitary, so I'm anxious for everyone to move back home! Of course, this year will have to be a little different than last-with many more Scarfe study sessions earlier in the year. I have some good econ classes but my poli don't really arouse me at all. We'll see how things shift around once the year starts. Wishing goodtimes to all,
