Vampire history is closely tied with Humanity. For millennia they have been the silent natural predator of man. Needing human blood to sustain their immortal existence. There are several breeds of Vampire. Western Vampires are known as Kindred. Legend tells that they are the spawns of Caine who was damned by god for the murder of his brother. There are thirteen known clans, each supposedly spawned by one of the Antediluvians (Thirteen vampires only two steps removed from Caine himself) yet all share a similar ranking system that works on age and the generations of the vampire spawned (how close he is too Caine)
Thin Blood / Caitiff: Caitiff, or Thin blood as they they are more commonly know as, Are the weakest form of Kindred. They are the result of poor sireing and don't possess enough power too define them as a product one of the Thirteen clans. Abilities: Their powers can vary quite remarkably although they will never be as powerful as pure Kindred even if they live for a thousand years. Some Caitiff are actually immune too some of the more drastic weaknesses of a pure Kindred and can tolerate sunlight and silver. Weaknesses: Caitiff aren't aloud too gain rank in Kindred society. They are thought of as the bottom rung of the vampire ladder. Some are even killed off as it is believed that the Thinning of Kaine's blood marks the Vampire apocalypse known as Gehenna (when the Antediluvians supposedly rise up and drain all their children of their blood)
Fledglings: also known more loosely as "childer" in Kainite culture. fledglings are newly born vampires still under the tutelage and protection of their sires, the vampire who created them. Fledglings are not considered full members of Kindred society and are often treated disrespectfully or as the sire's property. When the sire decides their childe is ready, the fledgling may become a neonate, subject to their masters approval. Fledglings are probably the most prevalent in human society as it is still very close too the age when they were alive and they strive too hold onto those times. They haven't quite made the full transition too the Kindred ways and still like too walk among man. Abilities: Fledglings are far superior too what they were as a human, but their abilities may vary depending on the person they once were. This is an example of a normal human and what he/she would be like if they were turned.
In addition to this Fledgling Vampires have regenerative qualities, heightened senses, and Fangs. A Vampire can heal from any wound not immediately fatal and are capable of regeneration but this feat does take some time (say an arm would take six months to re-grow) Weaknesses: Vampires in general have an intolerance for sunlight. Fledglings will burst into flames with direct contact from sunlight but it may take up too two minutes of direct contact too destroy them. Like most supernatural beings, fledgling kindred have an intolerance of silver. It is effectively a poison too them when introduced into their bloodstream. Strangely this is partly what leads people too believe that vampires have no reflection, as hundreds of years ago Mirrors used sliver too reflect the image. It was these silver mirrors that wouldn't show a vampires reflection. Fire is highly effective against Vampires as an enzyme in their blood is actually flammable. When a Vampire catches fire it can burn too the core very swiftly. Decapitation and extreme damage to the brain or heart are sure ways too kill a vampire outright. Neonates: these Kindred vary from newly released fledglings to indolent Kindred of a hundred years or more. Marked by the stigma of not yet having proved themselves to the elders, neonates are inexperienced vampires who might one night make something of themselves, but will more likely fall as pawns in the schemes of the other higher ranks Abilities: Neonates aren't that different too Fledglings. They are slightly more wilful and educated in the ways of kindred but otherwise there is barley any difference.
Weaknesses: *same as fledglings* Ancillae Relatively young vampires (one too two hundred years of unlife) who provide themselves as valuable members of Kindred society. Ancillae are lackeys to greater Kindred and if they are lucky and show potential they could possibly put on the track too elder hood. They have proved themselves too their masters but still lack the experience too be true masters of other kindred. Abilities: Ancillae are slightly more resilient too some Vampire weaknesses and generally possess a more dominant personality that any neonate or fledgling.
Weaknesses: Ancillae can survive slightly longer when exposed too direct sunlight (4 minutes) and are slightly more immune too silver nitrate poisoning but otherwise they share the usual vampire weaknesses Elders These kindred have existed for hundreds of years and typically range from sixth to eighth generation. With centuries of accumulated cunning and a terrible thirst for power, elder kindred are the most physically active participants in the dark war. Elders keep a stranglehold on the Kindred power structure, preventing younger vampires from exercising control they have maintained for decades, if not centuries. Abilities: Unlike their superiors (Methuselahs and Antediluvians) Elders do not have too sleep away centuries and are the most powerful constant members of Kindred society. They are extremely hard too manipulate and inhumanly cunning. Their strength is far greater than lesser Kindred and can tare apart their fellows with their bare hands in necessary.
Weaknesses: They fair slightly better in direct light and with silver. Although it is still a very fatal weakness. Methuselahs If the Antediluvians are the Kindred gods, then the terrible Methuselahs are demigods and avatars. At some point between a vampire's thousandth and two thousandth year, a great change overtakes the kindred. Sometimes the change is physical, while at other times it is mental or emotional. Whatever nature of the change, the end result us a vampire who no longer bares any semblance of humanity. Having truly moved from the earthly into the realm of the supernatural, the Methuselahs often retire into the earth, where they may slumber, away from the fangs of younger vampires. Their powers are so great, however that they continue to direct their inscrutable plans mentally, communicating telepathically with their minions. Kindred greatly fear there Methuselahs, who are accorded any number of horrifying characteristics. Rumours speak of Methuselahs whose skin has become stone, of everything or everything from hideous disfigurements to unearthly beauty that cannot be looked upon. Some are believed too drink the blood of vampires too fuel their legendary power. Abilities: *unknown* Weaknesses: *unknown* Antediluvians These ancient vampires, if they exist at all, are likely the most powerful creatures in the world. Members of the Third generation, the Antediluvians are only two steps removed from the first vampire, Caine. Antediluvians, when they choose to rise from their long sleep, affect all with whom they come in contact: according to the few fractured accounts of their doings, they possess virtually godlike power. In Kindred legend, there were 13 original Antediluvians, though some have allegedly been destroyed. Their eternal struggle touches at Kindred, and innumerable layers of manipulation and deception make the plots of these ancients almost imperceptible. Abilities: *unknown* Weaknesses: *unknown* The Clans Assamite The Assamite are feared assassins from the far east. Even fellow kindred dread the presence of Assamites for they have a reputation for Diablerie (draining another Vampire of blood) They sell their murderous services too other Kindred, acting as hired assassins. Some believe that the Assamite act at the behest of older powers, perhaps preparing for their part in the final act Brujah Rebels and warriors. The Brujah are a highly volatile clan seemingly constantly at war with other Kindred for a wide variety of reasons. They are barely controlled by the camarilla and most are outright anarchs who defy the authority of normal kindred social structure. They are highly passionate and are rarely understood. Cappadocians Known as "The Clan of Death" the Cappadocians are shunned even by their brethren for their macabre interests. The secretive nature of the clan causes both fear and respect. They are renowned for their insight and wisdom and are generally trusted as they have very little interest in earthly power. Giovanni Reviled perhaps more than any other single clan. The Giovanni clan is a family of financiers and necromancers. They possess a disproportionate amount of power and wealth. Followers of Set A clan with the ultimate gold of corroding the ethics of the world. They actively corrupt others and enslave humans and kindred alive too serve their dark master. Gangrel Lonely and Nomadic, The Gangrel are a clan only in the loosest sense. Perhaps the most feral of all kindred. They know the beast inside best off all other vampire. Some say they are capable of changing their own bodies into half beasts. Lasombra Elegant yet Predatory, The ladombra honestly think of themselves as the apes of kindred existence. They posses little patience, yet much pity for those they deem lesser than themselves. They seek power where ever it can be found. Malkavian The most incoherent of the bloodlines. The mentally deluded and the slavering psychotics are found in equal number amongst the Malkavians. Feared for their bizarre and manic behaviour and their even more unusual insight. Madness and brilliance runs in their blood. Nosferatu Bearers of an ancient and terrible curse, Nosferatu are no longer made in their god's image. Warped and ugly, their form is an abomination. Outcast from mortal and kindred society they lurk in the dark, masters of stealth and gathering information. Ravnos Tramps and Thieves, ravnos are scattered like chaff in the wind. They are known for their ability too create illusions and trickery. Toreador From the beginning the Toreador have always been devotees of beauty in all its forms. They immerse themselves in the aesthetic and consider themselves its guardians and preservers. Tremere No clan is shrouded in more mystery than the Tremere. Some clame they are not vampires at all, but mortal wizards who have cursed themselves in the search for immortality Tzimisce Vicious and cruel, the Tzimisce are infamous even amongst vampires. They lead the Sabbat in the rejection off all things human and even practice "Fleshcrafting" and act of self mutilation too sculpt themselves into beings of terrible and horrific beauty. Ventrue Knights and Kings, The Ventrue are the Princes of the kindred race. Leading the Camarilla and enforcing their own traditions on other clans.
