Derek's Professional Portfolio

The Final Project created in January 2016 for IT-431 is a formal project recommendation plan for a growing book retailer, Books-R-Us. The purpose of the assignment was to demonstrate our knowledge and understanding of distributed systems by analyzing and designing a system based on customer requirements supported by the application of object-oriented design and analysis strategies (e.g. use case analysis, Unified Modeling Language (UML) constructs and models, etc.); and apply knowledge and understanding of how to develop, test, and deploy a distributed system based on the architectural components, object-oriented programming, and development environment (e.g. J2EE/Jave, C#, ColdFusion, Scripting, etc.).

The final project recommendation plan demonstrates competency of various core information technologies, and systems with the detailed explanations of how the stores will be set up on the network; security protocols to be implemented; and the type of distributed system and architectural model to be used. Data manipulation methods and computational thinking solutions are demonstrated visually through the various use cases; as well as textually through the explanation of security measures, and recommendation of the object-oriented development environment and programming languages.

Though there was little focus on actual data manipulation methods and computational thinking solutions; the project was still very beneficial as it helped me develop a greater understanding of the physical and logical architecture of a distributed system and its components. As a result of the project I am better prepared to recommend and utilize various core information technologies and systems for the development, testing, and deployment of object-oriented systems to support organizational decision-making strategies within a business environment.
