Tanya Simms

A native of St. Anthony, NL,
Tanya is currently employed as the Constituency Assistant for Hon.
Trevor Taylor, Minister of Fisheries and Aquaculture and Minister
Responsible for Labrador Affairs, MHA for The District of the Straits
and White Bay North. Tanya has received a B. Sc. in Environmental
Science (Biology) from Sir Wilfred Grenfell College, MUN and an Advanced
Diploma in Coastal Zone Management from the Marine Institute.
In the Fall of 2002, Tanya traveled to the beautiful island of
Palawan, Philippines for a 6 month internship as a Coastal Zone
Extension Worker at the State Polytechnic College of Palawan. During
this time, she was involved in two growth studies involving species such
as Grouper (Epinephelus coioides
& Epinephelus malabaricus) and Trochus (Trochus
niloticus). One of the best experiences of her life, the memories
and knowledge she gained will last a lifetime.
Other work experience for this native Newfoundlander include 3
consecutive summers with the Conservation Corps of Newfoundland and
Labrador, the latter two summers she was Regional Supervisor of 4 Green
Teams on the Northern Peninsula. This work experience provided her with
knowledge on various subjects such as the rare Braya plants and Eider
Ducks.
