June 25-27, 2004
As
part of the Coastal Zone Canada Conference series, the Coastal Zone’04
Youth Forum will be an opportunity for youth (ages 16 to 30) to discuss,
experience and act upon coastal zone issues. The Youth Forum will be
held on the two days prior to the Coastal Zone Canada’04 Main
Conference, with an overlap of one day, with an informal reception that
same evening, where participants from the Youth Forum will have the
opportunity to meet and discuss issues with participants of the Main
Conference.
The
Coastal Zone Canada Youth Forum '04 will play host to The Grand Banks
Symposium - an initiative to convene graduate students from European
Union countries and Canada to discuss the ecosystem of the Newfoundland
Grand Banks. The Symposium will provide an opportunity to
promulgate sustainable ocean governance and collaborative arrangements
between Canada and Europe.
The
Forum will also include a series of concurrent sessions with interaction
between sector experts and youth. These sessions will include
coastal zone issues such as integrated fisheries management, sustainable
aquaculture, integrated management approaches, marine protected areas,
and other important coastal areas.
The Youth Forum will create an
inspiring and creative atmosphere where information and experiences will
be shared through interactive workshops, field trips and guest speakers,
as well as paper and poster presentations.
