Don’t think that in Australia, you won’t be detained by the Immigration

Department, because you are an Australian citizen. Be very cautious about that.

Australian citizen, mentally ill, was detained by Immigration authorities for

ten months. Cornelia Rau was free at last from Baxter Immigration Center.

Immigration Minister Amanda Vanstone has defended that detention for

10 months, saying that the department did all it could for caring for her.

That is unbelievable, how does the Howard Government care for people.

They have no shame saying that everything is okay if not.

Maybe its time to lock up the Minister of Immigration in such a center for 10

months and we will see whether this is appropriate or not. It’s time that the

Australian Government learnt something on them self and stop using

innocent and in this case a mentally ill person as a guinea pig for their sick

and inhuman law, which should be changed immediately.

That situation disgusted every human being, but not our Government.

For them everything is perfect, because none of their family member was

detained along with humiliation and abuse in the detention center.

This happened to be an ordinary Australian citizen, mentally sick,

who from the Government prospective is nobody,

is nothing, in a civilized democratic system of Australia.

Now the Government has something to explain to us.

But knowing the Coalition Parties, simply nothing will be done.

They probably say that system is working very well and nobody will be

punished for illegal imprisonment. Life’s go on and Prime

Minister John Howard with Amanda Vanstone will be sleeping well,

but what about us. Question will remain, where’s the democracy in 

our country and where is that democracy going, because I don’t see

that’s the right direction. That’s why public inquiry should be held

in that case to resolve that issue. Mistreating mentally ill person by

our authorities were immoral and illegal. I hope that example of

mishandle of Australian human being, may change a little in the

hearts of people in the power, because we need more compassion,

honesty and understanding. Those values are, which we looking

forward to see in the democratic country, where everybody is equal

in rules of the law and everyone has to get the same protection

from establishment whether you are ordinary citizen or

politician in the power.
