| ~My Baby's Story~ On June 6, 2002 I had my last cycle and was now pregnant with baby number six. My husband and I were excited about having another baby, but we knew that many would be against it due to alot of things that were going on at the time. I had an ultrasound done at 18 weeks and was dissapointed to find that I was having yet another girl which would make four girls and one boy for us. Dan and I both were hoping for a boy, but as long as the baby was healthy we would be happy no matter what the sex. We decided to call the baby Taryn Adelle, actually I decided, Dan really didn't have much say in the matter. He liked the name Avril which I had brought up one day as a joke I didn't think he would actually like it. Plus none of the Grandmother's liked it and that is usually how we picked the names of our children if the Grandparents didn't like it all the more reason to name the baby that ( I know pretty nasty! but it is funny!) My pregnancy got uncomfortable when I fell January 10, 2003 due to slipping on some ice, my stomach was the first thing to hit I had landed right on it, I was rushed down to Dr. Brauns office and he checked me over, felt for tenderness in my abdomen asked if there was any bleeding or cramping and there wasn't so I was taken off work for one shift. About two weeks later had some cramping. The cramping so bad at times that I couldn't even move without getting tears in my eyes, when I asked Dr. Braun about this he said it was just ligaments being pulled, the pains were only in one area and that was my lower right side, I had a little blood but nothing serious just enough to smear on a piece of toilet paper so I never mentioned it to Dr. Braun. My last day of work was February 10, 2003. As I was getting closer to my due date I become more uncomfortable. my back ached more, nausea was still there, I wasn't sleeping much due to the fact that I could not get comfortable. Baby was very active always moving and kicking me here and there or always having the hiccups. With baby being so active it made me even more uncomfortable. I was scared with this pregnancy, due to the fact that with my history of quick deliveries when I was pergnant with all the girls, and with how painless the labor was I was afraid of having the baby at home or enroute to the hospital. I actually did not know when I was in labor with all of the girls pregnancies, I was usually pretty close to delivering once at the hopital. Usually just making it there just in time. On Monday March 3, 2003 I had my weekly appointment with Dr. Braun. He did the routine checking, my blood pressure, baby's heart rate, and he checked to see if I was dialatied at all which I was but only 2 cm. I had ten days to go before my due date. I was experiencing bad braxton hicks contractions, he said I was in labor but it wasn't active labor. And he didn't think it would be much longer. For the next three days I was very uncomfortable my stomach felt like I had a stomach ache. I woke up the morning of March 6 which was a Thursday and was just so uncomfortable, I wasn't getting much sleep because I was to uncomfortable to get comfortable.I noticed I was getting pains but they were irregular and the length of each pain and intensity of each one varied so I knew it wasn't actual labor but by 5:30 that evening I was so uncomfortable that we went to the hospital. We arrived I believe shortly before 6:00 that evening. On the women's health ward we were told to sit and wait because there was no bed available and no monitor available we sat for about 20 minutes before they took me into one of the delivery rooms. I was told to change into a gown once in a room. The nurse came and said there was still no monitor available but she would check and see if I was dialating at all, I was sitting at 3 cm. They had yet to get me on a monitor. By this time we had been up there for over half an hour to 45 minutes. Finally Vanessa the nurse who was with me just took a monitor off of someone else so they could see what I was doing. Vanessa proceeded to try and find my baby's heartbeat she did find it but could not keep it, it would be in the 132 area then 145 then 152 what the heartbeat had been through out the pregnancy, but it would not stay, she would move the monitor around my abdomen and pick it up again but then lost it again she picked up my heartbeat in the 80's and then would find my baby's again, but again would lose it. Finally about 15 minutes later she went and got another nurse to try and find it and the same thing happened with the first nurse she would find it then lose it, then find mine then the baby's then mine the second nurse did this for about 10-15 minutes until another nurse came in and tried, well yet again the same as the other nurses find it lose it find mine then find baby's and lose it again. By this time I'm getting a little scared. Finally they decided to call Dr. Dautremont to come up and put an internal monitor directly to my baby's head. Dr. Braun was out of town for the evening and Dr. Dautremont was covering for him. They also called for the ultrasound machine, I had decided that if there was going to be an internal monitor put on I had better go to the bathroom. I was just going to get off the bed when I felt a gush. I was on top of it so I did not see it and thought it was my water, but when the nurse looked all she said was lie back down that's when I realized that it wasn't my water it was blood and something was wrong. Dan was there and he said as I was lying back down he could see my stomach growing from all the blood building up. As I was lying down I could feel the blood running out of me and I began crying. Finally Dr. Dautremont arrived along with the ultrasound machine, there was an anethesiologist there, and so was Dr. DeLeon the pediatrician and Dr. Lasende the Obgyn was on her way. They proceeded to do the ultrasound and then Dr. Dautremont quietly said "I'm sorry there is no heartbeat" I looked at him and said what do you mean there is no heartbeat my baby was just moving? How can there be no heartbeat? He then asked if I was sure and I thought that was the stupidest question ever asked. Yes I am sure my baby was just moving it had been moving all day and now they were telling me it had died? I couldn't figure it out? Here I was in a hospital and they could do nothing? Except tell me my baby had died! Dr. Lasende arrived shortly after we had been told the heart breaking news. She asked me if I knew what had happened, I do not think I answered because she proceeded to tell me I had had a placental abruption then went on to explain what it was and what had happened. I was bleeding heavily and was induced and in full active labor with in 20 minutes, my blood pressure was too low for a c-section or an epidural. I couldn't even have demerol, but I was able to have laughing gas. I had two or three transfusions that night and eventually had two shots of demerol while I was in labor. I was forced to push at around 10:00 pm. to try and get me to dialate the final 2 cm. and to bring the baby down into the birth canal. I couldn't understand why they had made me go through the pain of this labor, with my other children labor didn't bother me because I would have a wonderful reward at the end of it all, but with this baby there would only be silence and tears of sadness and the pain of a broken heart. I finally just gave up and closed my ears to them all. I decided I'm not doing this, and that was that. They eventually brought my Mom in and she is the one who got me pushing again by this time I'm completely exhausted due to pushing continuously for almost and hour and because of the drugs and the blood loss. I was crying and my Mom was cradling me like she used to when I was a little girl she kept saying Andrew Jayda Breigh and Sydney needed me I had to push for there sakes . And at 11:05 on Thursday March 6,2003 our baby silently entered into our lives.
