FINISHING UP
It was about a week and a half before I was on the ferry again. I had gone through Cygnet, Hobart and Devonport before leaving. Tom and Jutta had left a few days earlier by plane. I still had the bicycle so the ferry was a much better option for me. It felt really good to be returning to the mainland. I was beginning to have a feeling of being trapped on the island after two months. The tourist season had ended and there was a feeling of dnouement hanging over the place. Things seemed to be going downhill for me and the other backpackers on the island.
I had gone back to Cygnet for a few days while I was waiting for my ferry. I was hoping to work for a few days before taking off. The trip had taken its toll on my wallet and every extra dollar would help me along. Two backpackers lingered on at the hostel. Manish and Rhino were still about, smoking pot and drinking cheap wine. I didnt stay long. It was too depressing. Rhino still owed mass amounts of money to Jane and Manish managed to get himself mugged and thrown into the river. He was a bit beaten up and cold but he was ok. I didnt work at all. I ran back up to Tasman House to wait for the ferry. I lived off of free bread for the three days of waiting. It wasnt busy at all at Tasman house either. It was however, very peaceful there and it was quite relaxing just sitting around and letting the days pass. I was on my way back to Melbourne in no time and planning my next segment.
