Benefits of Buckwheat pillows: · The Buckwheat pillow may relieve common sleeping problems such as; tension, muscle pain, stiff neck, headache and stress! I have made a small pillow for my roommate and her mother as neck pillows. My roommate's Mother said she woke up without a headache for the first time in years. · The Buckwheat pillow will conform and adjust perfectly to your head, neck, and spine; (not just collapsing like conventional feather or fiberfill pillows) therefore making it the perfect pillow no matter what your sleeping position. Its firmness also allows the neck muscles to release useless tension. · The buckwheat hulls allow air to circulate throughout the pillow, cooling it off quickly. Because the hulls allow air circulation through the pillow, it will stay cooler than synthetic pillows for a more comfortable temperature whether it is warm or cold. · The Buckwheat pillow has NO odor. · The Buckwheat pillow can be a natural alternative to foam and feather allergies. · Lavender, Eucalyptus or other aromatherapies can be added to it, in which case, it would have an odor, but an odor of your own choice. History Buckwheat Hull pillows first appeared in Japan in the 17th century. It was used in the East because of its ideal firmness, coolness, and adjustability, which allow it to adapt to the characteristics of your body. It was a custom for Grandmothers to give one of these pillows to their grandchildren. My Own Experience I have made a buckwheat hull pillow for myself to sleep on and I love it. It can be adjusted how you want it for neck support and once adjusted, it stays the way you want it, unlike synthetic foams and fiberfills. The fiberfill or feather pillows flatten out with time, and the foam pillows keep springing back to their own shape, rather than yours. I make my pillows with zippers so the firmness can be adjusted the way that I want it. I noticed that the ones that have been sold on TV don't have zippers, so one doesn't have the option to adjust firmness. Since I make my own, I can also make it whatever size I want. I can also add a Lavender or Eucalyptus sachet for an aromatherapy effect. I make my pillows with a zipper, so the firmness can be adjusted, and also so that I can take out the hulls and wash the covering if I want. I made my own pillow a size that fits a standard pillowcase. Setting the pillow out in the sunlight for two hours every couple of months is a good way to keep it fresh as well. The hulls themselves cannot be washed.
