   The dark brackets in the formula indicate that this is a greatest integer function. This means that the information contained within the brackets must be reduced to the largest integer possible, if it is not a whole number already.

              F(x) = [x] = the greatest integer less than (or equal to) x

                   For x=3 : F(3) = [5.35410...] = 5

             This means 5 is the Fibonacci number that follows 3.
