 Who Is Cycle Santa Monica!?

Cycle Santa Monica! is a group promoting andCycle Santa Monica! Santa Monica Pier Sign picture at Twilight advocating for better cycling conditions in Santa Monica California. This group has been meeting for several months (in part due to efforts of local bicycle advocates and regional support). All are welcome to join who are interested in these things. Before Cycle Santa Monica! had its name many of its members were already advocating for better bicycling conditions, including the bicycles on Big Blue Bus campaign. To see some of the bicycle advocacy history written about in the local newspapers see: | Santa Monica Bicycle Advocacy news | Why Santa Monica Neeeds A Bicycle Master Plan | Cycle Santa Monica!s Manifesto | Cycle Santa Monica! on the radio! | [What Can You Do to HELP us!]

Cycle Santa Monica! logo picture. Emboses gray scale bicyclists Santa Monica, California is a popular place to bicycle because of its great year 'round climate and its proximity to the beach. Just beyond the famous Santa Monica Pier Sign (picture to upper left corner) is several miles of cement bicycle path that winds along the beach shore line. Some of the earliest recorded news was the campaign for the 19 miles of bike paths along the beach, fighting with properties owners and businesses who opposed bike lanes on San Vicente. Some additional reasons that make bicycling popular in Santa Monica is its proximity to UCLA and Santa Monica College. Most recent enhancement to Santa Monica's bicycle facilities have been the Big Blue Bus adding bicycle racks on their buses. This allows people to take their bike with them on the bus. This can also connect them to other transit hubs, including Union Station in Downtown and the Metro Green Line near LAX.  Currently, most buses that service Santa Monica have bicycle racks on them, including the most recent addition the Santa Monica public transit landscape - MTA's Rapid #720.

The group is a great place to be in the loop for receiving and sharing information about bicycling in Santa Monica with other members of Cycle Santa Monica. Additionally it is used to send out special announcements of important events and issues effecting bicyclists. This would include announcing Cycle Santa Monica! meetings or workshops.
