| Cycle Santa Monica! Call To UNITE and GET INVOLVED!! |
Santa Monica, California is a popular place to bicycle because of its great year
'round climate and its proximity to the beach. Just beyond the famous Santa Monica Pier Sign (picture to upper left corner) is several miles of cement bicycle path that winds along the beach shore line. Some of the earliest recorded news was the campaign for the 19 miles of bike paths along the beach, fighting with properties owners and businesses who opposed bike lanes on San Vicente. Some additional reasons that make bicycling popular in Santa Monica is its proximity to UCLA and Santa Monica College. Most recent enhancement to Santa Monica's bicycle facilities have been the Big Blue Bus adding bicycle racks on
their buses. This allows people to take their bike with them on the bus. This can also connect them to other transit hubs, including Union Station in Downtown and the Metro Green Line near LAX.
Currently, most buses that service
Santa Monica have bicycle racks on them, including the most recent addition the Santa Monica public transit landscape - MTA's Rapid #720.
