Hong Kong moves to Cyberport
ESRI Hong Kong moves to Cyberport
20 June, 2002
ESRI Hong Kong Limited (ESRI HK), a US-based company specialising
in the technology of Geographic Information Systems (GIS), today (June
20) announced its decision to become a tenant of Cyberport which is an
important information infrastructure being developed at Telegraph Bay.
ESRI HK will occupy one floor, with total office area
of over 1,800 square metres (some 20,000 sq ft), of Cyberport's Phase
1 building.
The Secretary for Information Technology and Broadcasting,
Mrs Carrie Yau, welcomed ESRI HK's decision and said: "The presence
of this US-based company at our first Cyberport building is a useful step
forward as we start building up an IT cluster at the Cyberport."
ESRI HK is one of the seven companies which have signed
up tenancy agreement to move into the newly completed Cyberport Phase
I building. ESRI HK together with the other six tenants will take up about
80 per cent of the rental office space in Cyberport's first building.
Mrs Yau noted ESRI HK signed the tenancy agreement last
month (May 2002), less than two months after the completion of the Phase
I building.
"We are encouraged by the support given by ESRI HK
which specialises in GIS. ESRI HK endorses the Cyberport concept and believes
that our Cyberport will help the company to push back the frontiers in
the GIS technology", she added.
Mrs Yau also noted that ESRI HK preferred Cyberport because
it would provide their professional staff with a campus-like environment
- similar to that provided by their US headquarters.
"Cyberport is designed to nurture innovation and
unleash creative synergy among a cluster of like-minded people,"
Mrs Yau said.
The Cyberport is a comprehensive development which will
help companies - local, overseas and multinational - of different sizes
and at different stages of development to flourish. The professional community
will enjoy intelligent offices, enormous bandwidth, a wide range of shared
IT facilities, a cybercentre providing retail and entertainment facilities
and a 5-star deluxe hotel.
The Cyberport will be developed in phases. The first phase
building has recently been completed while the remaining phases are under
construction. The Cyberport is scheduled for completion in 2004.
