Hybrid Tea 4-5' 'Showstopper' x (Seedling x 'Royalty') Bright red high-centered exhibition form with a fruity fragrance, 26-40 petals, 5-5.5" blooms that are borne mostly singly. Upright, tall and spreading with dark green semi-glossy foliage. JACOPPER : Zary, 1999 The best red rose in years is a common comment from ARS members. 'Veteran's Honor' boasts blooms that are large, velvety red with great form and substance. The fragrance is raspberry-like and the blooms are just gorgeous. Growth is impressive, being very vigorous and healthy. The color holds and doesn't fade into a magenta-pink color. Blooms can last 10 days as cut flower. This rose is quickly becoming an exhibition favorite and show winner. 'Veteran's Honor' is quickly becoming my favorite red rose, replacing 'Timeless' which has held that honor for the past few years. This rose gives large, florist-type blooms in abundance and also has just enough fragrance to satisfy my passion for fragrant blooms. First year growth and bloom was very good in my garden. Successive years have continued to impress me with this rose's garden value. Blackspot is only a mild problem and is easily controlled with regular spraying. Some plants have been reported as a bit slow to establish, just give it time if this is the case for you because this is a great rose! Winter hardiness may be an issue in areas with extremely cold winters, so protection is advised. Jackson and Perkins donates a portion of this rose's proceeds to American Veterans. ARS Rating: 8.0 |
