Hybrid Tea 5' 'Chrysler Imperial' x 'Charles Mallerin' Dark red, intensely fragrant 4.5-6", 35 petals. Swim & Weeks, 1964; AARS Winner 1965 Prized as a cut flower and exhibition subject, 'Mister Lincoln' set the standard for modern red roses and is tough to beat. Very fragrant with nice dark red flowers and leathery matte foliage.. This is a vigorous grower and gets quite tall, which may be why the rose was named after the former president. Very thorny, the plant itself can be rather unattractive looking too tall and gangly. The red petals age to more purplish-magenta tones but the fragrance is definitely a knockout. 'Mister Lincoln' remains one of the best, fragrant red roses available. Mildew can be a problem, as with most reds, so keep a spray program in place. Winter protection is recommended in cold winter areas. Best used in the back of a border or with smaller roses planted around it. ARS Rating: 8.6 |
