Hybrid Tea 5' x 5' 'Golden Scepter' x 'Karl Herbst' Blooms are flushed deep pink on creamy yellow with a white to light pink reverse, 68 petals, 4.5-5" exhibition quality blooms, intensely fragrant. Glossy, leathery dark foliage. Vigorous and upright growth. KORALU : Kordes, 1957 Referred to by Reimer Kordes, its creator, as his "perfect rose." It produces large, perfectly formed blooms of white edged with deep pink that are exceedingly fragrant. The fragrance is strong in warm climates and more reserved in cool climates. The bush is large, reaching a stately height of 5'. The foliage is dark and glossy. 'Kordes' Perfecta' performs best in dry areas as rain spoils the petals. Prolific repeat bloom and very hardy. The pink edging softens with age and gently fades into the large yellowy-cream center. Reverse is a creamy-white. Hot weather deepens the pink tones throughout the rose, while cooler weather will produce softer shades of light mauve with a creamy-yellow interior. Fragrance is outstanding. The only thing disappointing about this rose is that the buds seem to take an eternity to begin opening then once they start the bloom opens full blown within a few hours. This keeps it from making a good cut flower or exhibition subject. (Which is a pity because the fragrance is so delightful). All in all 'Kordes Perfecta' makes a nice garden specimen where you can enjoy its fragrant blooms daily. Zones: 4 - 10. ARS Rating: 6.5 |
