French Lace

Floribunda 3-4'

'Dr. A. J. Verhage' x 'Bridal Pink'

Creamy white sweetly fragrant, 30-35 petals, 4.5" exhibition form. Small clusters of blooms with slight fruity fragrance. Dark bushy growth.

JACLACE : Warriner, 1980; AARS Winner 1982

A delicate beauty would be the best description of 'French Lace'. It is not winter hardy and will die at 10 degrees. It should be protected if temperatures drop below 30 degrees. It has remained a very small plant in my garden and hasn't reached nearly the expected height. It is only about 18" tall which may be due to damage from winter exposure.

'French Lace' is supposed to be a great cutting and exhibition rose, but mine is much too small for that. The blooms have been very sparse and slow in repeating. When it does bloom, it definitely is gorgeous and I can see why people do go crazy for this rose. The blooms look like fine porcelain and have a soft sweet fragrance. This rose would probably do well grown as a container specimen if brought indoors during the winter.

The plant's winter tenderness is such a factor that I can't agree with the high rating it receives. I recommend it only for warm winter areas or greenhouse cultivation.

ARS Rating: 8.2
