First Prize

Hybrid Tea 4'

'Enchantment' seedling x 'Golden Masterpiece' seedling

5.5 - 6" blooms are high-centered with 25-30 petals silvery pink with a deep rose pink reverse. Moderate tea fragrance.

Boerner, 1970; AARS Winner 1970

It is easy to see why exhibitor's love this one as the form is incredible! 'First Prize' creates a spectacular display in the garden or vase. Color is bubble gum pink on the inside and darker rose pink on the outside. The large blooms last well over a week as a cut flower and have a good amount of sweet, rose fragrance. Blooms are produced consistently throughout the summer on long, stout stems.

This rose will produce gorgeous blooms with little care or attention from you. Growth habit is vigorous and upright in a V-shape typical of hybrid teas. Winter protection in zone 5 or lower is highly recommended for this rose. Do watch out as this rose has an abundance of large thorns! Blackspot can be a problem, but a moderate spray program will keep this plant disease free.

ARS Rating: 8.3
