Climber 10-12'
'New Dawn' seedling x 'New Yorker'
Dark red, very large, full, ruffled, long lasting,
cupped, 35 petals, very fragrant.
Maladrone, 1958
If you want a red climber with fragrance then this is the
rose you want to plant. A climber that thinks it is a
florist's rose, "Don Juan's" blooms are large and very
fragrant on long stems that are good for cutting. The
flowers will last several days in a vase. Blooms are borne
singly and in small clusters. The dark red color can look
almost black on the outermost petals. No disease problems
have been observed with no spraying. Growth habit is
vigorous with quick repeat bloom all summer long. This rose is a consistent performer here in Zone 5. It
puts on its best show in the late summer to early fall when
it really shoots up and produces masses of blooms. I do
protect this rose in winter with burlap and mulch. I have
been told this rose grows wonderfully on its own roots.
An easy rose to grow that needs practically no
maintenance. Just gently guide it where you want it to climb
and enjoy its beauty. Highly recommended!
