Large Flowered Climber 'Paul's Scarlet Climber' x 'Gruss an Teplitz' Kallay, 1932 Medium red cup shaped, double flowers with 20-25 petals and 2-3" blooms with slight fragrance. Very vigorous climber with dark green leathery foliage. An old favorite that still deserves a place in the garden. 'Blaze' continues to survive the toughest treatment a climber or any rose can receive. You can pretty much ignore this rose and it will just keep going. With a little bit of care, (light pruning and an occasional shot of fungicide), 'Blaze' will prove to be very rewarding to grow. It isn't as floriferous as some other varieties. Summer heat seems to really slow down the bloom production. There is a new 'Blaze Improved' on the market now that is supposed to bloom more abundantly. It is still tough to beat as far as hardiness and cold tolerance is concerned. ARS Rating: 7.2 |
