The intent and purpose behind this website is to generate a platform for potential customers to visit that provides them with the capability to acquire their desired goods and services. The website also aims to reduce the user’s cognitive load as much as possible by keeping the site simplistic, straight forward, visually appealing, and easy to read and view. By doing so, I can ensure that the user’s experience is a positive one, potentially generating product sales, loyal and returning customers, and proliferation of the company’s name through word of mouth and positive reviews of the business, its services, and its products.

To meet these objectives, I first considered, researched, and deeply evaluated contrasting colors This was one of the first items that I decided and made it the foundation for each page that I built. Additionally, the background choice for my main page also took a great deal of effort and, after looking over many different images, I ultimately decided on the one that is currently in use. The font sizes, colors, and style were also very important in the flow and readability of each page. Finally, I needed to make sure that the forms and tables that I used were relevant, concise, and to the point.

I made these specific design choices for several reasons. These design choices all have a direct effect on the website’s overall feel and appearance. First, I needed to ensure that each color choice was appropriate, made the site easy to view, and was not overly complex. Second, I needed to make sure that the background was not too busy, did not have a color scheme that clashed with textual colors on the page, and did not detract the user’s attention from the primary focus of the page. Third, the font paraments that I used are, in my opinion as well as from feedback that I received, appropriate, apply the proper level of contrast to their environment, and promote readability. Finally, the forms and tables that I constructed contain only the information that is pertinent to accomplish the goal of the user, which is to make an order for a custom cake. I did not want there to be an overabundance of information, as that may overwhelm the user and possible cause them to visit another firm/website for their needs.

In the future, I would like to expand the custom cake area to support online ordering of all the bakery’s products to fully support the user’s ability and online experience. This expansion will also allow the bakery to become more competitive in today’s online market and reach a broader audience of potential customers. Additionally, creating social media accounts for the bakery and embedding their links into the website will allow the company to more directly communicate with their customers to better meet their needs/demands. Finally, creating additionally pages with contact information, history of the bakery, and other secondary information could allow customers to know about how to communicate to the company and its past.
