Interactive Poetry 1999
Page Three

Beginning again in March 1999 and in conjunction with the inaugeration of our monthly newsletter, the Interactive Poem developed a better set of guidelines as pertains to deadline for entries on the current exercise and the commencement of a new poem. That is: the exercise became monthly with new poems beginning on or about the 20th of the month previous and concluding on or about the 18th of the month current.

Poems on this page represent the following months:

October

November

December

Interactive Poem Ten (October 1999):

Poetry is often filled with images of death and explorations of our own mortality. As death is a part of the Human condition, it is fitting that it should be. In contrast, the holiday of Halloween seems to poke fun at death. What better topic then for our October group endeavor than a gothic poem about or touching on the holiday? And although we will end long before Halloween, we really don't want to be talking about that subject weeks after it has past. So we'll start it now.

For those who do not understand Halloween at all, I offer up my personal website which describes the holiday in some detail: http://www.geocities.com/Athens/Acropolis/2321 (only available in season).

And now for the start of the poem:

Full moon, round and mellow goldened
pregnant with the solitude of darkness
Its richness filtered through the skeletal fingers
of the ragged tree branches
which still hold preciously
to the flags of the season past
afraid to let go.

It concluded with the following poem:

Phantasm

Full moon, round and mellow goldened
pregnant with the solitude of darkness
Its richness filtered through the skeletal fingers
of the ragged tree branches
which still hold preciously
to the torn battleflags of the season past
afraid to let go.
     (AngelPie_Mouse)

A chill hits my weary bones like a frigid wind,
Raising my hair on end.
What was that that touched me like a fiend?
It suddenly ran past me, then again...
Quickly disappeared around the bend
Deliberately shaking all my senses...
      (mgonzalez01)

October aprroaches
And in the atmosphere
The cackle of some witch's coven and the howling
Of some phantasm hits your ear
And makes your spine tingle as your mouth is shouting:
"Demons, be gone!!!!"
Yet it is only your wretched imagination
That overshadows your reason
And gives way to flights of fancy...
      (mgonzalez01)

The autumn voice tell me
the fallen leaves are my friends and
it is a sin for me to trample them
in my eagerness to sit in spring's
rocking chair with my warm life
and my blooming flowers
      (NALewis)

This feeling is strong,
more so, it gives a message of truth,
how the earthly ways
make our existence so small,
yet so strong...
the moments when the witch comes,
the goblins go, by the by,
she does her deed on the last of day,
for her own existence to be real,
it is a wonder one thinks to not burn,
the autumn leaf, a color of life gone dormant,
and start anew,
on second thought,
a trampling shall I go.
      (crowstouch)

And by and by the wind does howl
Yet is it only a yawn?
Above in the sycamore a tired owl
Becomes October's pawn
October comes like a phantom
To trick our minds with horrid scenes
Yet inspite of all the horrible goings on
The season decks itself with splendid colours...
      (mgonzalez01)

The ragged warriors swept from the battlefield
that saw and felt our trampling feet
make fodder for their own pyres;
flames licking and the smoke hung air
a mockery of this season of despair
remaining in sickly sweet whisps
long after night has fallen,
whitened fingers seeking, as lightsome as shadows.
Death should always be so, neither dark nor light,
and no concern to give us fright,
and we should smile.

Interactive Poem Eleven (November 1999):

This month, for the month of November, the topic was "November" and the Club composed this poem:

In November

November sun rises to greet an Autumn day
The harvest is ready;
A colorful array
Of nature's bounty
A thankful heart that is full of love
Embraces me
And I, grateful for this treasure trove
Of love, health, and glee...
    (Mgonzalez01)

In the stubbled field, the brown grouse hides
stirring for remembrance of the golden tides,
once marching wave on wave beneath a scented breeze;
deep Autumn falls and the insect hum recedes.
    (AngelPie_Mouse)

Looking up autumnal sky in the night
Cast spell on my heart
Strongly that twinkling up
I don't know why
Their brightness charms my heart
Like as a loved girl
Jupiter and Saturn
Superbly!
The night sky in November is beautiful
    (telescope07)

Colors splash across the sky
like paint across a canvas.
The poetry of November is like no other
for each changes each year
For its changes is constant and true
and every word it speaks becomes a new melody to hear
preparing for a new song to sing
November, what is your tale today?
    (Isitis)

And by and by this grateful heart
In deep reflection finds repose
I find true beauty in nature's art...
The wondrous aroma of a simple rose
The color of the pumpkins in the fields
The succulence of the apple pies
The satisfaction of the harvest with all it yields...
Thus my soul takes on a peaceful slumber
As my heart beholds the beauty of the Autumnal skies!

Interactive Poem Twelve (December 1999):

This month, for the month of December, the poem was started by Poetry_Gal , the topic was "winter," and the Club composed this poem:

December

When the world loses warmth,
The chill settles in.
We wait for the whisper of snow,
A sound without sound.
    (Poetry_Gal)

Exhaling, the stuff of life
made manifest in white wisps
hanging on the air.
We know we live.
    (AngelPie_Mouse)

Treasure of fallen timber
warms three times --
when we haul, when we cut
and when it burns.
    (OldCusser)

And in the golden glow
the snap of years given back to time
the crackle of secrets witnessed released
dreams begin.
    (AngelPie_Mouse)

Like an eternal fire
Raging within...
That warms our spirits and takes us higher
To a superior level
Of existence...
That in the years ahead will make us grow
By simply enjoying our wonder years...
Of witnessing the simplicity and whiteness of the newly fallen snow...
And lying on it and making angels there.!
    (mgonzalez01)
