Brendan
and his wife Mary have two young children Cormac and Orla, Brendan runs
the Irish Seal Sanctuary as a full time volunteer from it's Garristown base in
Fingal.
Brendan is an agriculture scientist and member Irish and European Institutes of Biology, pioneer of the Irish
Whale and Dolphin Sanctuary and developing with the Fingal Local Authority a National Marine Conservation Centre for Ireland.
Brendan has contested Seanad Eireann on 4 occasions, rising progressively
higher each time and is now presenting himself for the Euro Elections, with the full backing of his Seanad team and cabinet of advisers. He
has pledged, when elected, his MEP salary, surplus to average industrial wage, to sustain the work of the Irish Seal Sanctuary, until such
time that the Government honours it's promise to seed-fund the Marine conservation Centre
and then to other marginalised conservation/community initiatives.

Career:
From the age of 14 he worked a variety summer and hildoliday jobs through school and
college (tourism, buing, farming, factories, fishing, landscaping et al.)
After qualifying in Agriculture he joined Government Valuations Office for a year and subsequently
went to Dublin Zoo as a keeper for 10 years.
During his time in the zoo, he introduced Animal Management Training; represented keepers on
the Union Branch Committee; drafted first Union Environmental Policy; changed Zoo Constitution to reflect Conservation and Education;
secured Government Enquiry into Dublin
Zoo (the forerunner of future Government
Enquiries), at cost to his own career.
He subsequently financed and ran first cruelty case against Dublin Zoo to save last
remaining elephant, and further wildlife test cases.
The Zoo Enquiry resulted in
the current investment and expansion scheme
at Dublin Zoo.
During the years that followed, till
publication of the Enquiry and his validation, he founded the Irish
Seal Sanctuary (ISS) and Irish Whale and
Dolphin Group (IW&DG) and continue to serve on the B.O.D., ISS. During this period he pioneered and developed Marine Mammal Rescue in Ireland; established Rehabilitation Centre, which has returned c. 250 seals
to the sea in Irelands largest wildlife and community
events; secured the Irish Whale and Dolphin
Sanctuary, bringing the International Whaling
Commission (IWC) to Ireland and setting the course for the development of Sustainable Marine Eco Tourism; developed a National Strandings Network and Oil
Spill Response for wildlife. He continues to work with the ISS, Fingal
Local Authority and Government to provide a Marine
Conservation Centre for Ireland. In
this period he helped secure Irelands ratification of CITES.
He organised
2 National Exhibitions for Department of Environment and Marine Institute (UNYO)
Seals the Enchanted People
and Land Dividing, Sea Uniting, amongst
ENFOs most successful to date. He
continues to visit schools and develop school projects as a pilot member of the National Heritage Visitors to Schools Scheme.
He contributes regularly to national
wildlife and environmental policy and through the Embassies on a variety of international
wildlife issues. He is a regular commentator
in the media on wildlife issues. He has
extensive experience in areas of wildlife conflict and conciliation.
He has contested 5 National University Ireland elections for Seanad �ireann (Irelands Senate), promoting the
need for a National Conservation Strategy and representing the voiceless
in our society.
He continues as a consultant/advisor on a
variety of issues and his work has been mostly with and for the voluntary sector and Civil
Society
