The Balance

This is an essay ariella posted to the Gorean Public Boards

This is a very important topic to this girl and one which seems to re-surface often in her life and not usually when she has achieved a balance, but usually when she has lost it.

Some time ago, Master OldViking posted an excerpt from a Danish newspaper written by the editor-in-chief, Jørgen Steen Nielsen. In that excerpt she found herself focused on 8 words which have very deep meaning to her:

"Diversity is a wealth. Imbalance is a poverty."

ariella tries to embrace a balance in her life and attempts to live true to that balance on a very large scale. This balance can also be applied to smaller things to help one understand the "grande scheme of things" such as the "Gorean community" and ones place within that scheme.

There are many things within the Gorean community which are wealthy, such as those ideals which are tossed about so liberally (honor, integrity, truth, respect). Those very ideals which are said to be the "Philosophy of Gor".

There are also things within the Gorean community which are poverty, such as jealousy, pettiness, arrogance, selfishness, deceit, cruelty, narcissism and poor esteem.

On a smaller scale, and where this has mostly recently come to roost for this girl, she finds that slavery itself is a very delicate balance. She has recently been reminded (some gentle and some not so gentle) of lessons learned and become aware of this balance in her own life.

For this girl, the balance a slave would strive for would be to remain proud yet always humble. Shameless yet always modest. Noble yet always surrendered. Confident but never presumptuous. Spirited but never insolent. Passionate but never impetuous. Ecstatic but never boastful. Beautiful but never conceited.

She posts this here to thank those who have taught a girl her place and those who have reminded her of that place. She posts also that others might benefit in some small way or have cause to reflect on the balance and diversity of this community.

She wishes all well and much wealth.
