The Cardigan Corgi is a long low dog
with large upright ears that are slightly rounded at the tip
He has a lovely brush for a tail & a rather short, easy care coat
Occasional puppies are born with a longer coat
He is a Corgi because he is a small Welsh dog;  A Cardigan because he originated in Cardiganshire, Wales
He is often referred to as Ci Llathaid - the yard long dog (the Welsh yard is 40 inches)

The Cardigan was bred to work closely with the farmers of Wales as a herder of cattle, a guard dog & companion.
He was reserved with strangers & completely loyal to his family
He comes in many different colours
He is full of fun and, if brought up withchildren who are taught to trea him properly, he will revel in frolics, always ready for a game.
He displays a sense of humour with his antics
He is equally at home looking after people of all ages -  families of one, large families or people who need help.
They can stil be suspicious of something strange, so, if he shows this suspicion, don't reprimand him  -  investigate.
The Cardi is devoted to his family & can adapt to almost any lifestyle
be it living on a farm
in a suburban backyard                                 or a city apartment
This breed mixes well with other dogs, making them quite habit forming.
Any time is playtime
Any thing is a toy
Swimming is fun, too
& so is your lap,
and we do like to run

Careful breeding for less reserve & socializing of puppies by breeders has produced a dog that is more relaxed with strangers & thus more suited to the lifestyle of present day owners  -  a delightful inteligent companion of all ages, usually with a quiet & sensible temperament.
