MURROW FAMILY


First Generation

David MURROW (Murray) of Elizabeth River, Norfolk Co., VA. He was the headright of Richard Whitehurst who patented 700 acres in Lynnhaven Parish 22 Nov 1651. In 1669 Murrow sold 600 acres in Lower Norfolk joining that of William Whitehouse ("400 acres from patent and 200 for transporting four person.") He married first to a woman named Ann and second to Hannah Blanch Ivy, the widow of George Ivy, who died 1668. His will was made 5 Nov 1692, proved 16 May 1693 with son John appointed sole executor. The will names his deceased son David Murray [sic], son Alexander, son John and daughter Ann, wife of Jeremiah Beck. (Norfolk, VA, Book 5, p. 196).


Second Generation

The children of David Murrow included:

(1) David MURROW (Murray) Jr.was born about 1675 Norfolk Co., VA. His will was dated 5 Nov 1691 and proved 17 May 1692. His wife was Mary CHURCH, daughter of Richard Church, or Mary SOWESY. His children included John (d. by 1729), George, Eve who married William Etheridge, Mary who married Richard Standly and Elizabeth who married Moses Ball.

(2) Alexander MURROW of Norfolk Co., VA inherited 262 acres from his father David Morrow. He married to Mary (surname probably BATCHELDER). He reportedly left a will naming sons John and Caleb. Other sons said to be David, Jeremiah, Alexander, Daniel and Thomas. Land records indicate he was also the father of Mary Murrow who married to William Fentress.

(3) John MURROW of Princess Anne Co., VA. He died by 1729 and was married to a woman named Mary. He had at least one son who had Caleb, John, David and Richard.

(4) Ann MURROW married to Jeremiah BECK (BOCK) who died by 1700 Princess Anne Co., VA. Issue: Jeremiah, Benjamin, George, Hannah Dollar, Ann Everidge, and Margaret.


Third Generation

A daughter of Alexander Murrow and Mary Batchelder was:

(1) Mary MURROW died before 1776, married to William FENTRESS Jr.

William FENTRESS sold in 1715 land belonging to his wife Mary which was described as follows: "ye North side of ye head of beaver Dam belonging to ye Indian Creek ye land lying in ye Eastern Branch of ye county of Princess Anne being by estimation twenty-five acres more or less lying in and bounded by marked binding on ye line that was formerly John WILDBEAR (?) and granted to him by Patent and on ye line of John MURDEN, part of ye same land or patent ye same twenty-five acres of land be it more or less being part of a tract or divident of land belonging to David MURROW Elder and granted to him by ye sd Murrow ye elder transferred and given to his son Alexander MURROW by Will and being transferred and given by will to his daughter Marry Murrow "

Mary Murrow and William Fentress were the parents of at least three daughters: Priscilla, Lida and Angelleca Fentress.
