A QUAKER COOPER FAMILY
Trying to establish the parentage of Quaker Isaac COOPER born circa 1740 and married to Prudence ----.
Isaac COOPER received a land grant in 1774 at Wrightsborough Twp., Parish of St. Paul, Province of Georgia. The births of two sons were recorded at Wrightsborough Monthly Meeting, Columbia Co., GA although they were probably born elsewhere.
In 1787 the family left Georgia and were received at Bush River Monthly Meeting, Newberry Co., SC. Isaac COOPER was probably a member of the Cane Creek Monthly Meeting, SC which was formed in 1789 and located on the Tiger River in Union Co., SC. The men's minutes of this meeting have been lost but his wife Prudence Cooper is listed in the women's minutes in 1789.
In 1793 Isaac and Prudence returned to Wrightsborough Monthly Meeting, GA. Nothing further is known about them after this date.
(1) Benjamin COOPER born 13 10th month 176_ (page torn). He married 1st day 3rd month 1783 at Wrightsborough Monthly Meeting, GA to Ferribee SANDERS, the daughter of Joel Sanders and Charity (probably Hollowell.) Benjamin and Ferribee left Wrightsborough MM in 1786 and went to Bush River MM, SC. They also returned to Wrightsborough MM at an unknown date. In 1806 they were granted certificates to Lost Creek Monthly Meeting, TN from Wrightsborough MM. In 1808 they were received at West Branch Monthly Meeting, OH. There is no further mention of this family in the Ohio Quaker records.
(2) Isaac COOPER Jr. born 15 9th month 1774 Wrightsborough MM, GA. It is not known where or when he married. It is known that in 1809 Isaac Jr., his wife Elizabeth and children Prudence and Joseph requested membership at West Branch Monthly Meeting in OH. In 1821 they were granted certificates to Mill Creek Monthly Meeting in Miami Co., OH where the births of their children are recorded. Isaac Jr. made his will in 1825 and died that year in Butler Twp., Montgomery Co., OH. Their children were: (a) Prudence who m. Samuel TEAGUE, (b) Joseph who m. Lydia EVANS, (c) Mary who m. Samuel WELCH, (d) Rhoda who m. Isaac JAY, (e) Allen (1815-1838), and (f) Abijah (1817-1838).
(3) Joseph COOPER born before 1787 m. 1800 to Mrs. Martha ALLISON.
(4) Phoebe COOPER born before 1793.
(1) Isaac COOPER born 15 9th month 1784 at Wrightsborough MM, GA. He took out a marriage license in 1804 in Jefferson Co., TN but it was not returned. He admitted at Lost Creek MM, TN in 1805 his marriage contrary to discipline to Abigail THORNBROUGH (1788-), the daughter of Joseph Thornbrough and Rebecca MILLS. In 1807 they removed to Miami MM, Warren Co., OH where their certificates were recorded in 1811 shortly before they requested permission to move to Mill Creek MM, Miami Co., OH. In 1830 they were residing in Green Co., OH and by 1840 they had moved to McDonald Co., MO. Isaac Cooper died in McDonald Co. in 1867.
(2) Charity COOPER born Wrightsborough, GA.
(3) Benjamin COOPER Jr. born about 1787 at Wrightsborough. He married contrary to discipline in OH and was disowned by the Society of Friends 24 2nd month 1814. His wife was named Susanna -----.
(4) Joel COOPER born 26 Feb 1788. He was also disowned for marriage contrary to discipline by West Branch MM, OH in 1813.
(5) Ferribee COOPER born 17 Jul 1789
(6) Absalom COOPER was born 3 Jul 1791. He married to a woman named Sarah and resided in 1850 in Martin Co., IN.
(7) John COOPER was born about 1793. He married 1821 to Mary Ann MORRIS.
(8) Joseph COOPER born about 1796 and married Nancy RANEY.
(9) William COOPER married to Rebecca BLEVINS.
(10) Sarah COOPER born 4 Mar 1799, died 4 Feb 1869 Martin Co., IN. She married 1826 to William HARRYMAN.
(11) Mordecai COOPER born before 1805 and was received in membership at West Branch MM, OH with his parents and siblings.
(1) Welmet COOPER born before 1807 in TN.
(2) Benjamin T. COOPER born 1809 OH. Married before 1837 probably in Indiana to Matilda LOCKWOOD.
(3) Larkin COOPER born 1811 OH.
(4) Rhoda COOPER born 1815 OH. She married before 1832 to Zachariah BARKER. They resided in 1840 in Greene Co., IN and by 1850 they were in Cooper Twp., McDonald Co., MO.
(5) Absalom COOPER born 1814-1819 OH. He married 25 May 1837 Martin Co., IN to Susan HEDRICK and second circa 1849 to a lady named Malinda.
(6) N.W. COOPER born 1818 OH, died young.
(7) Daniel COOPER born 1815-1824 in Indiana. He married to Arritha or Arretta and reside in 1850 and 1860 in McDonald Co., MO.
(8) Hiram COOPER born 1823 IN, married to Lucinda ----.
(9) Joel COOPER born 1824 IN. He married to Narcisa---, Rhody A. --- and Rebecca A.------.
(10) Lewis COOPER born 1826 MO.
(11) Wilson COOPER born Nov 1829 MO, married to Hester A. ----
(12) Marion COOPER born 1834 IN and married to Mary A. ----.
(13) Isaac COOPER born 1835 IN and married to Ruth ----.
