And so it goes with my time as Cubmaster of Pack 348. I have had a great time with a great bunch of folks, both Scouts and parents. I consider myself very lucky to have been involved with such an active group.
But...
We have two very able people taking over for me, Rich Skwarek and John Hinman. Although a few of the people that actually did the work this year will be leaving as well, most will be sticking around. My thanks to Mary Reilly and Cyndi Whitfield, who will be stepping down as their sons begin their last year in 348. However, this gives someone else the opportunity to step in as Committee Chair and Recording Secretary. Although the Franks will be stepping aside, I am sure that Brian MacDonnell will do a wonderful job as the leader of Den 5. All of the other Den Leaders have agreed to stay on, and Cheryl Ciaramella has agreed to continue to keep the books. Karen Jackson will continue to keep track of awards, Jill Britton stays on for the Blue & Gold, Greg Silos stays on as Popcorn Chair, and Darla Laymon will stay on as Corresponding Secretary until her son crosses over. Norm Laymon enters his fourth year as our Assistant Cubmaster, along with Tom Buckenhizer. And because I refuse to go peacefully, I will also become an Assistant, until Collin crosses over in February. However, since both Norm and I will be leaving with our sons, we could probably use another Assistant CM.
This will be another busy summer, including the picnic on June 1 (check out the Great Egg Launch, above), two day camp sessions, Dads'n'Lads in July, a baseball game in August, along with Webelos Woodlands, and the Kickoff Kampout in either August or September.
As well, starting advancement for your boy over the summer will give him a headstart for the new year.
One season ends, another starts. On to the next challenge!
