III. WHAT IS REQUIRED FROM THE STUDENT

Students who are selected for Speech Team will be required to practice continuously each day, every day and to attend competitions in hopes of qualifying for state finals.

MEETINGS AND REHEARSALS

Students wishing to be on Speech Team will audition in during the second week of September each year. Students who are selected will attend the weekly team meeting each Monday at 2:50 p.m. in Room 285 with the head coach. Team members will also meet individually with the head coach at least once each week for individual training sessions.

Members who fail to attend the Monday meeting without prior approval from the head coach will not be eligible to compete in the next competition. Members missing two Monday meetings without prior approval of the head coach will be dismissed from the team.

GRADES

Members who do not maintain a weekly grade point average of 2.0 in each of their classes will be assigned to study table in Room 285 at 2:50 p.m. on the three days of the week they are not attending the team meeting and individual training session. Members attending study table MUST bring study materials from their classes to work on. Study table will last until 3:20 p.m. each day (unless other accommodations are arranged by the head coach.) Members missing one study table will be dismissed from the team. Students who have two consecutive weeks with a grade point average below 2.0 in each class will not be allowed to compete until the grade point average in each class is brought up to a 2. 0 and maintained for at least two weeks.

MEDICAL AND PERSONAL INFORMATION

Members are required to correctly and neatly fill out, with assistance from their parent/guardian, the IHSA Participation Form (as amended for the Speech Team). It is very important for members and their parents/guardians to be honest and open in filling out this form. Our competitions take place away from the school on Saturdays. We leave very early in the morning and come back around dinner time. Competitions can be located up to 3 hours away from CVCA. Therefore, it is very important that I (and the school) are aware of any medical conditions and have exact and updated contact people and phone numbers in case of an emergency.

You and your parent/guardian also have to fill out a student travel form. We will be taking school buses to and from the events. Students must ride on the bus. They are not allowed to drive to and from the event nor are they allowed to be driven to and from the event by anyone else. This is a TEAM - just like the football and basketball teams - we ride the bus together. Student who are late for the bus unfortunately will not be able to compete.
