| From points North such as Charlotte, I-77:
Follow I-77 south and take exit 10 -- Jackson Blvd. At the bottom of the ramp turn right (west, away from Ft. Jackson) and continue with the directions below for Jackson Blvd. (If you're coming from afar north via I-95: take I-95 to Florence, then take I-20 to around mile 76 and take I-77 south.) From Fort Jackson via Jackson Boulevard: In just 0.4 mi you'll be at a stoplight. Zero your odometer here. Just 0.1 mi after this light, you'll fork to the left (yielding, of course!) just in front of a motel. Now it's easy. You're on Wildcat Rd. (which will soon become Rosewood Dr.). Go straight on Rosewood Dr. till your odometer reads 2.5 miles (9 lights, including blinking school light), and turn right onto Woodrow St. Go up to the first light (at the 100 block) -- you're now at Heyward and we're right on the corner. From points south such as Charleston, I-26: Follow I-26 West to mile 116 and I-77. From I-77 take exit 10, Jackson Blvd, and turn LEFT (west, away from Ft. Jackson). Now Jump to the directions above for Jackson Blvd. From points west, such as Augusta, I-20: If you prefer more interstate, follow I-20 to mile 76 and exit to I-77 South. Take exit 10 - Jackson Blvd, and turn right. Jump to the directions above for Jackson Blvd. If you prefer shorter, but more city driving route, exit I-20 at mile 61 onto Hwy 378. This will take you to combined 378/us1 just before a bridge -- you'll veer left at a light there. Continue across the river, where the road name becomes Gervais. Continue past the state capital on your right and past two large intersections (Harden Street, then Millwood Ave.) to a residential area, to just before Sunshine Cleaners and then "The Appliance and TV Center." Turn right onto Woodrow Street, and follow it south to the 100 block and the UUFC. From points northwest such as Greenville/Spartanburg, I-26: Follow I-26 east and at mile 108 stay straight (and don't veer right toward Charleston). You're on the Columbia spur called Hwy 76 and I-126 (NOT I-26). This will become Elmwood Avenue. When it ends at Bull Street (in front of S.C. State Hospital) take a right. Follow Bull St. past the 1200 block to Gervais Street (at Workshop Theatre) and turn left. Continue on Gervais past two large intersections (Harden Street, then Millwood Ave.) to a residential area, to just before Sunshine Cleaners and then "The Appliance and TV Center." Turn right onto Woodrow Street, and follow it south to the 100 block and the UUFC. From downtown Columbia: Follow Assembly Street south (past the capitol on your left, and up to Coliseum on your right). Turn left at the large intersection with Blossom Street. Proceed several miles until you enter a residential neighborhood (Shandon). Turn right onto Woodrow and look for the intersection of Heyward. UUFC will be on the left corner. |
