1.  Keep a journal.  Write down exactly how you feel and what you want to do to yourself without actually doing it.  Keep writing until you don't feel like doing it anymore.  Write, don't type.  Writing takes up more energy than typing and it is a good way to develop writer's cramp so you can't cut yourself.  Also, as an added bonus, cramps are painful.  You get the best of both worlds.

2.  Play music that expresses how you feel.  Usually, people like to blast out angry music (i.e., OTEP, KoRn, Slipknot, etc.).  If you don't want to disturb anyone, then slip on a pair of headphones.  But, as a little word of warning, you may mess up your ears quite a bit.

3.  Lie down, tighten all your muscles as tight as you can (legs especially) and take a few long, deep breaths.  While your muscles are tightened, try to move your limbs in various motions.

4.  Talk to yourself.  I know it sounds funny, but, trust me, it works.  Pretend you are having a conversation with someone about what you want to do and why you want to do it.  Keep talking and don't stop until you have replayed everything in your mind to the last detail.  While you are talking, clench your fists as tight as you can to resist cutting.

5.  First, I should say that I didn't come up with this next one.  All the credit goes to the webmaster of
RuinYourLife.com.  I'm just adding on to it.  This is called a "Happy Box."  What you do is you take a box (shoe box, music box, whatever you like) and fill it with stuff that makes you happy.  Some suggestions are pictures you like, either taken in real life or it can be from a magazine or newspaper.  It can also be special objects that were given to you from loved ones.  It can be anything from a piece of jewelry to a simple little note that someone special wrote to you.  I, myself, haven't started one, yet, but it's something I would like to get around to doing.  I'll let you know when I do.  In the meantime, make your own and let me know what you put in it.  I'm pretty sure that the only rule to this is to fill it only with stuff that makes you happy.
