The Journey Home
I caught the Airport Bus to LAX at 6:30 in the morning on Friday the 13th to catch my 10:30am Continental fight to Houston Texas.  From Houston I took a "puddle-jumper" to my final destination: East Texas.  Beautiful area -- but, it was a "dry county".
The next morning 4:00am I started driving home to California.  I caught I-40 in Oklahoma City and followed it West through Oklahoma, Texas (again), New Mexico, Arizona until I got to California.
At the airport parking lot.  I was about to drive my truck for the first time.

Notice the fold-down tow-bar with a shovel mounted to it.
6:00am Saturday morning I crossed into Okahoma from Texas on I-35
3:20pm Saturday afternoon I crossed into North Texas from Oklahoma on I-40.
6:00pm Saturday evening at the Route 66 museum (one of many on I-40).  This one was in Santa Rosa, New Mexico.  I stayed at an inexpensive motel in town, rather than in the more expensive tourist area.
Noon on Sunday I crossed into Arizona and stopped at a this gift shop next to the official Arizona State Welcome Center (closed on Sunday) to get a bottle of water.  Big sign, big teepee.
I wanted to take a picture of the truck crossing the California border but, when you cross into California you're on a bridge crossing the Colorado River.  Then you are in a narrow canyon with nowhere to pull over and take a picture.  There is no Welcome center like other states, just an inspection station to make sure you are not bringing in any illegal fruit into the state (closed on Sundays).
The traffic manners change in California too.  During my drive across country I saw regular cars and trucks driving close to the speed limit displaying common courtesies.  In California -- all of a sudden -- 1/2 the vehicles on the road were driving 30 to 40 miles per hour over the speed limit.  Most of these vehicles were 4 door jacked-up big-tired 4X4s pulling a trailer with either two or more quad-runners or JetSkis -- darting in and out of traffic as if there was a bomb about to go off that only destroys off-road vehicles and personal watercraft.
I finally made it home at 1am Monday morning into the arms of my loving wife who had a cold  beer waiting for me.
