These are some pics of my modified Hasbro WWII Harley.  First I added lights to the front and rear.  Then I came across a crazy idea of  how to give it engine sound and realistic engine vibration.  Finally, I did some detailing work to the engine area.
OTHER VEHICLES
Another modification I made was to turn the gearshift lever into the on/off switch.  To the right is picture of the tiny switch installed in the air filter box.  The linkage from the gearshift is conected to the switch on the rear of the box.  Next to that pic is an inside shot of the sound
and vibration mechanism.  It consists of the motor section from an HO slot car, with the right side wheel removed.  The left side wheel then passes through to the other side of the harley frame.  A small weight is attached to the wheel in an offset position.  This creates the vibration when the motor spins.  Inside the left part of the gas tank there is a small piece of plastic that the weight on the wheel rubs on which makes the motor noise.  Surprisingly, it creates a very realistic "put put" engine sound.  The other two pics show how the lights are installed in their housings.  The power switch has three positions so that you can have both the motor and lights on, or just the motor.  Both the motor and the lights run on a 9-volt battery stored in one of the saddle bags.
Here are some pics of the detailing work.  I added some wires and cables as well as a registration plate.  The starter pedal was drilled out and made functional so that it can swing out.  Also I added a rubber covering on the Airfilter hose.  Although you probably can't see it too well, I created a whole new sidestand out of metal wire.  It now can stand up when you use the side kickstand with out worry of breaking.  The right pictures show a green canvas tool kit I made that fits into the saddle bags.  The design was based off pictures I found of the real thing.  I really would like to find some time to weather this vehicle, then it would be complete.
