This is my custom field switchboard.  This is a real item that was used by the Army in WWII.  I have recreated this one as accurately as possible, and I really went crazy on the detail.  The carrying strap and the harness to the headset/microphone are functional, as well as the side carrying handles.  The wires can also be unplugged and repositioned.  I wish I could have made the legs and the doors fold up, but that would have made it very fragile.  Also, sense I would be using it in the deployed position mainly, I figured that would be a very unused option.  Also, the pic probably doesn't show it well, but there's a pad of paper with tiny notes written in pencil on it.  The lower right pic is group of photos showing a real switchboard that I saw on ebay.
These final shots are what it looked like before painting.  As you can see it's mainly styrene with brass legs.  The top part of the legs has a narrow cut down the length of it which was done with a dremel cut off bit (and a lot of patience).  The board is comprised of lots of pins (with the heads cut off), aluminum tubing, sheet metal, wire, and some round stock plastic.  The black plastic of the board is actually a piece of plastic cut from a battery cover to an old TV remote.  (Something I found on the ground one day.)
