Favorite Syracuse Basketball Games

This is my list of favorite Syracuse University Basketball games. This is a list of my personal favorites. They aren;t necessarily the most exciting games. But just a list of my personal favorites. Review the list and enjoy. Of course if interested in any game, drop me an email and we can discuss a trade.

04/07/2003 - #11 Syracuse vs. #4 Kansas
Superdome - New Orleans, LA (NCAA Championship Game)
Carmelo Anthony scored 20 points, grabbed 10 rebounds and handed out seven assists as Syracuse won its first-ever NCAA championship, by defeating Kansas, 81-78, at the Louisiana Superdome. The Orangemen also got 18 points from Gerry McNamara, who hit six first- half three-pointers. Michael Lee of Kansas had a chance to tie the game, but Hakim Warrick blocked his three-point try out-of- bounds with 1.5 seconds left. After a timeout, the Jayhawks inbounded the ball, but Kirk Hinrich's desperation three-pointer fell short and Syracuse preserved the victory.
04/05/2003 - #11 Syracuse vs. #3 Texas
Superdome - New Orleans, LA (NCAA Final 4)
Carmelo Anthony poured in a career-high 33 points and grabbed 14 rebounds as Syracuse advanced to the NCAA Championship game with a 95-84 win over Texas in the national semifinals at the Louisiana Superdome. Gerry McNamara scored 19 points and Hakim Warrick added 18 for Syracuse, which is in the Final Four for the fourth time in school history and is in the title game for the first time since 1996 when it lost to Kentucky.
03/22/1996 - Georgia vs. #15 Syracuse
McNichols Arena - Denver, CO (NCAA Sweet 16)
Syracuse and Georgia battle in one of the most exciting NCAA Tournament games ever. The Orange seemed in control of the game until star forward John Wallace picked up his 4th foul early in the 2nd half. Georgia responded by going on an 18-2 run to grab a commanding lead. With the Orange in trouble Wallace returned to rally the Orange to force overtime. In OT, Wallace took over the game and with 6 seconds left and the Orange down by 1, Wallace hits a three pointer to win the game and send Syracuse to the Elite 8.
03/05/1989 - #2 Georgetown vs. #6 Syracuse
Carrier Dome - Syracuse, NY
Syracuse played arch-rival Georgetown in front of 30,000+ in the dome and senior day for Syracuse star guard Sherman Douglas. The Hoyas, led by the twin towers of Alonzo Mourning & Dikembe Mutumbo lead by as much as 12 points midway through the 2nd half. But, Douglas would not let the Hoyas ruin his senior day. Douglas leads the Orangmen back and to force overtime. In OT Douglas takes the game over and ends his final game at the Carrier Dome with a reverse dunk and a win over Georgetown 82-76.
03/04/1990 - #7 Georgetown vs. #10 Syracuse
Carrier Dome - Syracuse, NY
This game hit the peak of the legendary Syracuse/Georgetown rivalry. Another 30,000+ in the dome watched this game and it was senior day for two more Syracuse legends (Derrick Colemen & Stephen Thompson). The Orange & Hoyas battle until Hoya head coach John Thompson draws two technical fouls and gets ejected from the game. The Hoyas and Orange battled back and forth but two clutch free throws by Syracuse's Billy Owens lead the Orange to the 89-87 victory and the Big East Regular season championship.
03/21/1987 - #10 Syracuse vs. #2 North Carolina
Meadowlands - East Rutherford, NJ (NCAA Elite 8)
Syracuse battles North Carolina for a spot in 1987 Final 4. Everyone penciled in UNC to the Final 4, the Tar Heels were led by Kenny Smith and star center JR Reid. Well Rony Seikaly and Syracuse responded by played a dominating first half and went into halftime with a double digit lead. Syracuse would hold off a late 2nd half rally by the Tar Heels and win 79-75 to advance to the schools second final 4.
03/24/1996 - #15 Syracuse vs. #4 Kansas
McNichols Arena - Denver, CO (NCAA Elite 8)
Syracuse and Kansas met for a spot in the 1996 Final 4. Kansas was a heavy favorite, the Jayhawks were led by star guard Jacque Vaughn and had a dominating frontline of Raef laFrenz, Scot Pollard, and freshman Paul Pierce. The Orange countered with All-American John Wallace and a frustrating 2-3 zone defense. The Orange played an error free game and used an agressive 2-3 zone along with timely scoring to upset the Jayhawks 60-57 and advance to Syracuse's third final 4 in school history.
01/24/2000 - #6 Connecticut vs. #4 Syracuse
Carrier Dome - Syracuse, NY
The Orangemen and Huskies met for an early season Big East battle. The Huskies were led by Khalid Almin and were the defending national champs. Syracuse was a shocking 15-0 and was led by the senior trio of Jason Hart, Ryan Blackwell, and Etan Thomas. A loud and crazy Carrier Dome crowd and an excited Dick Vitale watched the Orange dismantle the Huskies 88-74 and prove to the college basketball world the Orangemen were for real.
03/30/2003 - #11 Syracuse vs. #6 Oklahoma
Pepsi Arena - Albany, NY (NCAA Elite 8)
Oklahoma and Syracuse met in Albany for a spot in the 2003 Final 4. The Sooners relied on sharp shooting senior Hollis Price and a stingy man-to-man defense. Syracuse was led by freshmen sensation Carmelo Anthony and its aggressive 2-3 zone. The Orange defense was suffocating and the Sooners looked baffled by the aggressive 2-3 zone as the Orange shutdown the Sooners to win a defensive battle, 63 to 47.
12/06/1989 - #1 Syracuse vs. #6 Duke
Greensboro Coliseum - Greensboro, NC (ACC/Big East Challenge)
Syracuse and Duke met in the first of three ACC/Big East Challenges. Syracuse came into this game as the #1 team country and was led by Derrick Coleman and Stevie Thompson. The Blue Devils countered with a young team led by Bobby Hurley and Christian Laettner. These teams battled back and forth but the Orange would win with two late free throws by sophomore Dave Johnson.
